Shooting Star Childcare is a state of the art childcare facility that is collaborating with North Polk School District to provide universal preschool to the following communities: Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, Ankeny and surrounding areas. Shooting Star Childcare focuses on children learning through play in an environment that allows them to explore, discover, and imagine.
Shooting Star Childcare, located in Elkhart, Iowa, is seeking to hire a universal preschool teacher.
Compensation: Salary starting at $40,000 and up pending on experience and credentials.

Position criteria:
- Required: Valid Iowa Teaching license with prekindergarten endorsement.
- Good communication and problem solving skills.
- Self-directed.
- Enthusiastic about facilitating learning through play and committed to continuous development as an educator.
Instructional responsibilities:
- Provides instruction to students in individual, small group, and/or full classroom settings.
- Uses identified student needs to guide the learning using formal and informal assessment data aligned to district standards.
- Create a classroom environment that focuses on learning through play.
- Plan, implement and evaluate learning through play and in accordance with established curriculum expectations.
Classroom responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, Shooting Star Childcare, or specific program requirements.
- Develop a classroom that allows children the freedom to learn boundaries, rules, and respect while maintaining structure in the classroom
- Collaborate with other partners as necessary. Partners may include family support/parent education staff, community childcare, Early Childhood Iowa, Head Start, Shared Visions, and others as necessary to meet the needs of the child and family.
- Develop and maintain a relationship with the child’s family in order to support the success of children and their families to reach desired results.
- Assist families to identify and access available resources to meet the needs of the child.
Assessment responsibilities:
- Conducts student assessments to identify individual student needs to scaffold learning and/or to determine intervention strategies.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide frequent progress reports to parents.
- Collaborates with the Director at Shooting Star Childcare regarding students' needs.
Professional responsibilities:
- Adhere to the Iowa teaching standards.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships and works cooperatively with students, parents and colleagues.
- Projects a positive image as an educator in the center and community.
- Demonstrates initiative and ability to work without close supervision.
- Displays a positive attitude and adjusts to new changing situations.
- Meets deadlines, is punctual and completes assigned tasks with minimal assistance.
- Seeks opportunities to improve professional competence through professional development activities.
- Collaborates with colleagues to plan and implement activities to address preschool improvement.
- Participates in discussion or activities focused on using research to improve teaching and learning.
- Attend staff meetings at North Polk School district and Shooting Star Childcare.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical requirements:
- Bending, carrying, climbing, traveling between job sites, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing and walking.
