Parke Vermillion County Humane Society is a not for profit 501 (c)(3) organization in Hillsdale, IN. Our goal is to Prevent cruelty to animals, control the animal population through the promotion of spay/neuter programs, and find loving homes for abandoned and surrendered animals in our counties.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions in animals.
- Perform spay/neuter surgeries a minimum of twice per month-ideally weekly.
-Perform TNR surgeries.
-They will work closely with the shelter manager and/or staff on medical protocols to be
used in their absence and oversee the use of controlled substances.
-They will perform or train/ sign off on specific staff members to perform euthanasia
as needed on animals too ill to recover or with severe behavioral issues.
-The DEA license will be used on a variety of medical supply sites and/or other veterinary supply companies to order necessary medication and
medical supplies for the shelter.
-Be willing to perform an annual or semi-annual vaccine clinic for the public.
-The ideal candidate will be patient in teaching staff how to assist them in the surgery suite.
-Hours can be flexible based on your schedule.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Indiana
- Have a current DEA license or be able/willing to obtain one
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and diseases
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills
Preferred Experience:This position is perfect for a young veterinarian looking to gain surgical experience, experience in shelter medicine, or to earn a bit of extra money to pay off their extensive student loans.
