The CDFW, Central Region has an opportunity in our Habitat Conservation Program for a proactive and independent person to conserve Central California's unique fish and wildlife, and their habitats. CDFW, in its capacity as a trustee and responsible agency, has jurisdiction over the conservation, protection, and management of fish, wildlife, native plants, and habitats necessary for biologically sustainable populations of those species. This position covers the Big Sur Coast, over the Coast Ranges, through the Central Valley, and up into the top of Sierra Nevada Range. As a Senior Biological Liaison for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) you will:
Work independently and with the Caltrans Liaison Unit and other departments in CDFW to coordinate and process permitting of complex projects for Caltrans in accordance with the Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) Program and the California Endangered Species Act (CESA).
Research, evaluate potential project impacts on, and develop impact avoidance, minimization and mitigation measures for special status fish, wildlife, plants and communities in the Central Region.
Coordinate Habitat Mitigation lands projects in cooperation with Caltrans and other departments in CDFW as Caltrans fulfils mitigation requirements of LSA and CESA permits.
Project biological expertise in the review of Caltrans' environmental documents to help conserve and protect California's fish, wildlife, native plants, and habitats.
This position is a 12 month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.

Working Conditions
The position requires the use of a computer for several hours each day, the completion of office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; and attendance at meetings and participation in conference calls. The position may require travel throughout the Region including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain, use of a 4-wheel drive vehicle (including all-terrain vehicle), and work in inclement weather. A valid California’s driver’s license is required to drive to meetings and field sites. The position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as CDFW staff.
