Job summary:
A surgical scrub technician’s position requires the performance of the basic tasks necessary for efficient ongoing operation of the surgical clinic. The surgical scrub technician is responsible for preparing operating rooms and patients for surgery, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering and inventory control.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities
· Adhere to RSA Policies & Procedures
· Use knowledge of aseptic techniques to ensure sterile environment is maintained
· Handle instruments efficiently
· Prepare patient for procedure/surgery including setting up procedure trays, preparing patients for procedures (heart monitor, ekg leads, BP cuff)
· Prepare operating room for procedure/surgery
· Order supplies as needed
· Maintain efficient inventory control
· Maintain medical equipment in good condition and arrange for repair as necessary
· Move patient throughout pre-operative, procedure/operating room and recovery area
· Coordinate patient care with other practices and/or satellite offices as necessary
· Provide patient education and health teaching as appropriate
· Clean and stock the rooms thoroughly daily and weekly, on an as needed basis
· Clean and sterilize instruments daily
· Clean the autoclave weekly and keep a current log
· Keep a log of all maintenance and dates of service
· Clean/turn over rooms between surgeries
· Stock operating and procedure rooms daily
· Pull charts for the following day
· Assist with procedures Injection instructions
· Empty red bags and replace them between surgeries
· Pull labs from printer, and place on charts
· Filing of lab results, after reviewed and signed-off by physician, to patient’s chart
· Assist with maintaining SART records
· Responsible for ordering clinical consents
