Description:
The Program Assistant at Jane Addams Hull-House Museum (JAHHM) will assist the Director, Associate Director, and other staff in implementing and developing exhibitions, public programs, and other events at the museum for the UIC community, Chicago area community groups, and the general public. The Program Assistant will also greet and orient visitors to the museum in coordination with Visitor Services Assistants (VSAs). Areas of responsibility include scheduling visitors and groups to the museum, event logistics, rental agreements, community outreach, and the museum website. In all activities, the program assistant will collaborate with other staff to ensure that exhibitions and programs align with the museum's larger goals and mission.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides support to the JAHHM Director and other senior staff, serving as an advisor and performing professional support tasks.
- Provides program knowledge and expertise of the museum to visitors, including welcoming visitors to the museum by greeting and registering their attendance, and directs them to specific areas of the museum.
- Assesses the needs of visitors to the museum and answers visitor queries.
- Helps to compile and analyzes visitor information data and summarizes findings.
- Assists the Director of the museum and other senior staff in designing the museum’s spaces.
- Represents and coordinates working relationships with the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts (CADA); acts as a liaison to the campus and community groups.
- Coordinates the logistics and activities for the museum’s public programs.
- Helps to coordinate the Visitors Services Assistants at the museum.
- Makes periodic tours of the museum and historic dining hall to ensure that all areas are clean, well-lit, and functioning effectively.
- Communicates to the Director all feedback from patrons, including complaints. and general comments related to the activities of that shift.
- Observes individual and group use of the Hull-House facilities to insure proper practice of Museum policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree.

Demonstrated experience in a cultural institution, museum, or library.
Preferred Qualifications:

Creative approach to thinking about museums.

Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm in art and social justice.
