Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Records Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of medical records, medical terminology, and experience working in a hospital setting.
Duties and responsibilities:
A. Assigns all principal, secondary diagnoses ICD-10-CM codes utilizing the 3M-HDM coding system to all Emergency Room encounters for hospital reimbursement.
B. Assigns procedural codes on Ambulatory Surgery cases according to CPT4 coding guidelines.
C. Assist with the Emergency Room/Observation and Ambsurg coding.
D. Abstracts and verify patient’s demographics.
E. Works with and queries physicians in regards to documentation issues that impacts coding
F. Monitors and reviews Outpatient coding quality and productivity
G. Keeps abreast of all current coding changes and other related topics.
H. Utilizes the EMR system to facilitate coding.
I. Utilizes the electronic chart tracking system.
J. Other and all duties as assigned by the supervisor.
K. Works with the Ambulatory Surgery staff to ensure all ambulatory surgery cases are captured coded and closed for billing.
L. Creates reports as needed
Knowledge and skills:
A. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of ICD-10-CM coding process
B. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the CPT-4 coding process
C. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the HCCPS coding process
D. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the OAM/NY DOH Health Commerce system to supervise the input of SPARCS correction data.
E. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the abstracting system.
F. Demonstrates ability to input data appropriately to the approved coding and abstracting system.
G. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the DRG grouper system
H. Must ensure that all medical record information is secured at all times, and confidentiality of the patient information is not compromised.
Must be able to use computer system.
Requirements:
-High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate from an accredited Coding program.
Preferred requirements:
- Supervisory experience.

Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Weekends as needed
