Job Description
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Site Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Experience in retail sales or customer service preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.
Ability to read and follow written instructions and documents, like site procedures, safety manuals, etc.
Ability to freely access all areas of store/site.
Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the site, including shut-offs for gas pumps or car wash.
Ability to understand and apply basic arithmetical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.
Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision under stressful conditions.
Ability to climb ladders.
Ability to report to work regularly and predictably, including irregular hours if needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (WILL VARY BY SITE COMPLEXITY):
Provide prompt, courteous customer service.
Obtain merchandise requested by customers or receive merchandise selected by customers.
Acknowledge, forward, and/or resolve customer questions/complaints.
Ring up all sales on the cash register properly and accurately, and handle money and credit/debit card payments for products sold. Wrap or bag merchandise for customers.
Accurately operate the cash register, fuel console, car wash console, and safety shut-offs.
Prepare and finalize shift closeout. Remove, secure, and record the amount of cash in the register at the end of the shift.
Solicit customers for upsell at both C-store and car wash.
Perform inside/outside cleaning duties necessary to maintain site cleanliness and basic upkeep of all equipment at the site.
Inspect site facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and proper working order.
Perform preventative maintenance duties as required.
Receive and verify vendor or supplier deliveries.
Control merchandise, cash shortages, and other expenses.
Stamp, mark, and/or price tag merchandise.
Assist in maintaining proper inventory levels and shift audits. May be taught to assist with inventory and/or ordering of merchandise. Set up merchandise and/or advertising displays.
On occasion, may be required to work irregular hours, including unscheduled shifts, and overtime, and attend job-related meetings. Hours may be weather dependent.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Person in Charge, Assistant Manager, or Site Manager.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to stand and/or walk as needed throughout the shift.
Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead when stocking/maintaining merchandise and/or supplies.
Able to lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds from ground to waist level.
Occasionally push and pull hand truck up to a force of 20 pounds.
Able to bend and twist at the waist when stocking/maintaining merchandise and/or supplies within C-store.
Safely able to move car wash solution barrels weighing 100+ pounds, with proper equipment.
Able to grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands continuously, such as while serving customers, making changes, processing credit/debit transactions, etc.
Able to climb a ladder to perform preventative maintenance, retrieve materials, and/or place and remove signs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
In the C-store environment, approximately 95% of work is performed indoors. However, also endure exposure to cold temperature extremes while performing needed work in the store’s walk-in cooler and/or freezer.
Work in conditions with exposure to occasional noise, such as traffic, sirens, car alarms, car wash equipment, emergency, or security alarms.
In the car wash or gasoline kiosk sites, work will be 95% outdoors, with exposure to varying temperatures, and including wet weather while performing duties. Able to reach, bend, and twist for an entire shift, where wipe down of vehicles is performed.
