Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced General Accountant who likes variety and challenge to join our Finance Team. The General Accountant is a key member of the Accounting Department and drives many central close financial close responsibilities of the company. The role is responsible for progressively evolving, leading and executing close activities to ensure timely, complete, and accurate financial reporting and optimal internal controls, in coordination with other areas of Accounting, and in partnership with other departments. This person is responsible for exercising independent judgment and decision-making, while keeping accurate and timely financial records, compiling financial and analytical reports, and assisting with projects that improve workflow and support growth. This is an exempt position located in Kent, WA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Post payroll and related people cost entries to the general ledger; assist with any ERISA, 401K or similar compliance audits.
- Validate internal commissions and payroll accruals on a monthly basis (generally within 2-3 days).
- Develop and maintain rolling Headcount reports and Budgets for each department, as an input for fiscal budgets, decisions, and cash flow analysis.
- Reconcile employee benefits– ensure that vendor charges are appropriately matched to employee benefit elections and payroll deductions for employer-sponsored benefit accounts.
- Register with tax jurisdictions as needed for the collection and remittance of all local, state, and federal payroll taxes with support from ADP in the processing and configuration.
- Collect, report, and analyze key labor costing information, including department level classification of employees and wage and fully loaded per capita costs to determine product cost allocation.
- Treasury Activities – tie out banking records to expected payroll values for Payroll, Payroll taxes, 401K contributions and wage garnishments. Research and resolve variances.
- GL Reconciliations – perform monthly, quarterly, and annual GL reconciliations as assigned using support from a variety of internal and external sources. The assigned accounts will focus primarily on Payroll related liabilities and assets and Employee benefits, such as HRA/FSA, Medical Payable, and Dental Payable. Other account reconciliations may be assigned as needed, including Company Bank Accounts.
- Accurately complete and document assigned standard journal entries by established deadlines (generally within 2-3 days of the activity).
- Support and collaborate on projects that foster automation and scalability to enable business growth, new product launches, and organizational changes.
- Calculate bonus or special income (such as imputed income) as requested in partnership with the HR Director.
- Document or update operating procedures relative to assigned areas; document and retain sufficient and compliant support for financial transactions.
- Perform GL analysis on an as-needed basis, including determining GAAP treatment vs. tax treatment of expense items and balance sheet accounts.
- Represent the finance team on cross-functional working groups with specific goals/objectives (i.e. profitability by customer, or implementation of new software).
- Prepare, maintain, and generate monthly Cost Shop reports
- Maintain cost allocation reports and assist with month-end allocations and Assistance Fees
- Prepare and process Receiving documents and assist AP team in closing open Purchase Orders. This involves strong attention to detail and burdening internation costs such as Customs, Freight, Tariff, and Labor charges.
- Support the CFO in collaboration with other Accounting staff in the development of the annual budget and/or quarterly forecast cycles, as needed.
- Participate in ad hoc projects in collaboration with other Accounting staff, or individually, as needed.
DESIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or closely related field required
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional level Accounting experience required, preferably in a manufacturing organization
- Experience with payroll processing and ADP Workforce Now or similar (i.e. PayChex) payroll processing platform
- Solid knowledge and understanding of internal controls
- Two or more years’ experience with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 ERP system (SAP Business One, NetSuite, Dynamics, etc. or similar) required
- Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills
- Strong technical aptitude for third party websites and cloud-based software
- Sound data analysis skills
- Strong attention to detail with a proven track record of process improvements
- Ability to work cordially with people of different backgrounds both across and up and down the organization
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills
- Ability to occasionally work beyond normal business hours and weekends as needed
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $62,400.00 - $72,800.00 per year
