Associate Scientific Services Specialist

Job Description Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Lab Support Coordinator to join our dynamic lab service team. This role is crucial in providing coordinated support to research groups, ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory environment. As part of the Scientific Services General Lab Support team, the Coordinator will be the primary contact for lab needs and activities, typically overseeing services for a designated building or location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the main point of contact for customer lab staff, coordinating laboratory needs and activities.
- Collaborate with other teams to seamlessly deliver lab support services.
- Coordinate daily lab operations, including managing inventory shortages in point-of-use cabinets (e.g., glassware, lab coats, PPE, consumables).
- Occasionally coordinate waste removal, ensuring proper disposal with third-party vendors.
- Escort third-party vendors for maintenance and repairs.
- Regularly meet with key stakeholders to identify, review, and resolve issues.
- Engage with customers and staff to ensure quality and compliance within the laboratory.
- Collaborate with line safety reps to maintain high safety standards.
- Provide updates and timely communication on service work requests.
- Conduct area walkthroughs for new staff and visitors.
- Coordinate 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) lean service once certified.
- Cross-train and provide backup support in other lab areas.
- Complete paperwork according to Good Documentation Practice.
- Facilitate meetings, communicating expertise in LSC functions.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of office equipment/software after training.
- Maintain compliance in health, safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.
Preferred:
- 2+ years of experience in a customer-facing role within a scientific environment.
- Professional Certification/associate degree in relevant fields (e.g., Project Management, 6-Sigma, Business Administration, Supply Chain).
- Basic understanding of GLP/GxP and/or experience in a compliance-driven environment.
- Experience with 5S principles.
- Knowledge of chemical and safe handling practices.
- Basic Occupational Health and Safety knowledge.
Must-Haves:
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.

- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interpret client requests.
- Proactive and initiative-driven to improve processes.
- Ability to read and interpret chemical labeling and hazardous signage.
- Good Documentation Practice.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses).
- Ability to remain stationary for more than 25% of the time.
- Ability to move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite.
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, stretch, and reach to perform service functions.
- Ability to occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (with potential occasional lifting up to 50 pounds).
- Specific vision abilities required, including close-range detail observation, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Ability to occasionally operate office machinery.
- May handle hazardous waste according to regulations, involving identification, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, and labeling.
- Potential exposure to lab-based hazards, including extreme temperatures, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
- May require Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator.
