Duties:
- Collaborates with Clinical Administrator to establish, define, and refine department goals and demonstrates satisfactory progress towards achievement of these goals and objectives.
- Participates on all Department of Surgery committees
- Exhibits the ability to make effective decisions based on verifiable and measurable data/criteria.
- Promotes positive customer relations with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrates respect and sensitivity to cultural/social differences in interactions with others.
- Demonstrates initiative and problem solving skills using sound judgment.
- Supervises efficient scheduling throughout the Department of Surgery and mediates physician issues regarding scheduling, supplies, equipment, and personnel
- Reviews reports on staffing and overtime reports
- Resolves scheduling conflicts, physician, patient, or any other clinical issues that may arise
- Evaluates staffing to meet shift needs. Maintains on-call OR crew at all times.
- Evaluate Q I indicators, investigates issues and/or incidents and gathers additional information as needed before reporting them to the Q I Committee.
- Collaborates with the Clinical Administrator on preparing annual operating budget and proposed capital for the Department of Surgery and monitors compliance with the approved budget
- Develops, supports, and interprets to staff the hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Ensures maintenance of accurate records pertinent to department.
- Interprets, implements, and ensures compliance to Joint Commission, accreditation, and OSHA requirements and standards.
- Assists in preparation for Medicare and Medicaid, accreditation, and licensure survey
- Plans and initiates educational programs and in-service training to upgrade staff knowledge, abilities, and skills.
- Analyzes requests for new procedures and equipment, researches cost impacts for staffing and supplies, and reports findings to Clinical Administrator and Senior Management for consideration. Implements if approved.
- Monitors inventory management, medical supply purchases, group purchasing contracts and discount utilization, cost per case benchmarks.
- Oversees CDM for surgery department and works closely with the Materials Manager to ensure that all new items are added if chargeable to the ORSC CDM and the correct pricing, reven:ue codes and HCPC codes are entered.
- Helps to develop performance evaluation tools and performs annual staff evaluations.
- Directs the employment, supervision, assignments, and termination of all Department of Surgery personnel
- Establishes and monitors quality indicators to improve quality of care.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree preferred)
- Proven experience in a leadership or management role
- Strong knowledge of Meditech
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively manage budgets and financial resources
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Qualifications:
- Current Oregon RN License. Current BLS within 30 days of hire date. ACLS within 6 months of hire date.
- Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory, principles, and practices to provide direct patient care appropriate to population of specialty
- Considerable clinical management experience in OR, Pre-Op, Endoscopy, PACU/SDU units
- Considerable H R skills in hiring, evaluating, training of clinical staff, and mediating and resolving
- H R issues and conflicts
- Several years of hands-on experience in OR, Pre-Op, Endoscopy, PACU/SDU units
- Ability to supervise and apply skilled techniques to carry out the nursing process
- Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain excellent communications and co-operative attitude across hospital departments, physicians, staff, and towards internal and external customers.
