Summary
You will serve as a Human Resources Specialist (Benefits) for the Small Business Administration (SBA), People Operations Disaster Division (PODD). The employee serves as a Senior Human Resources (HR) Specialist providing HR advisory and program services to a Center or equivalent Center level office or to subdivisions of a Center.

Selectees residing within the local community areas (within 50 miles) of an SBA office in the following cities Atlanta, GA, Buffalo, NY, Citrus Heights, CA, Fort Worth, TX Herndon, VA may be required to report to an office based on the work demands determined by the level of disaster activity.
Duties
As a Human Resources Specialist (Benefits) at the GS-0201-12, some of your typical work assignments may include:
- Provides advisory services to management and individuals on a variety of programs and services including Thrift Savings Plan, Federal Employees Health Benefits, Federal Employees Group Life Insurance, and Long- Term Care program.
- Coordinates with other PODD HR Specialists to ensure new employees' benefits are processed timely and accurately and works with the benefits HR Assistant to receive and process all employees' FEHB applications for enrollment and benefits changes.
- Identifies and clarifies problems and issues in the administration of benefits and recommends solutions. Prepares findings, recommends corrective action, or assesses progress in accomplishing changes approved by higher levels of management.
- Utilizes a variety of electronic systems to gather, organize, maintain, and report data and information.
- Tracks and monitors data within the functional area of expertise to provide reports to management and supervisors.
Requirements/Conditions of Employment
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government travel credit card.
- Favorable background investigation and credit check are required.
- You may be required to complete a one-year trial period.
- This is not a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
Experience:To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on the resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level.
GS-12: You must have 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. Specialized experience is described as meeting all the below:
- Researching, interpreting, and applying appropriate laws, regulations, policies and/or guidelines and providing a broad range of advisory services in the areas of benefits; and,
- Responding to a variety of human resources inquiries from internal and external customers; and,
- Using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) to gather, maintain, and report data; and,
- Providing supervisors/managers with advice and guidance on various Human Resources processes and/or strategies.
