Job Title: UPK Teacher
Reports To: Director of Children’s Programs
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary:
Responsible for planning and the preparation of the UPK classroom activities. Acts in collaboration with the teaching team, plans and implements the daily class lesson plan, assist with behavior management, co-teaches at centers/circles, contributes observations on student progress, and maintains knowledge of SMILE children’s IEP goals and objectives to assist in implementation by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Creation and implementation of the High Scope program using assessments and observations to inform small group lesson plans and participate fully in the program. *
2. Creates two daily detailed small group lesson plans for each group, which are differentiated based on COR anecdotes and KDI’s. *
3. Set daily classroom materials and integrate individualized education program goals into small group lesson plans. *
4. Conducts Brigance Assessment in the fall to include a writing sample and self-portrait in the portfolio. Self-portraits and writing samples will be reassessed in spring. In addition, in the spring, there is a required literature response.
5. Per High Scope, document key COR anecdotes to plan and maintain daily differentiated lesson planning.
6. Attends and participates in meetings, training, and professional development as required. RECAP, CLASS, ECERS training via the Children’s Institute. Fall and Spring TPOT assessments are based on the teaching pyramid. *
7. Contributes to a clean, attractive, stimulating, safe, and organized classroom as well as assists in maintaining the cleanliness of floors, bathrooms, toys, and carpets according to New York State Office of Children and Family Services regulations, Rochester Childfirst Network policies and procedures, and teaching pyramid model practices. *
8. Maintains all required attendance, Child and Adult Care Food Program, New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and other RCN required paperwork with fidelity. *
9. Completes TCRS rating scale assessment for UPK in both fall and spring for COMET.*
10. Assists in maintaining all student emergency contact information used in classrooms for field trips and emergency drills. *
11. Develops and maintains a positive rapport with parents and all Rochester Childfirst Network staff.*
12. Supports and enforces classroom and center policies.*
13. Adhere to and know OCFS regulations, ratio, incident reports, and supervision of children. The classroom must be staffed to ratio and acknowledge the requirements of staffing to ratio, i.e., staying past the scheduled end of the shift or leaving early if over-staffed*
14. Implements teaching pyramid practices to fidelity. * Uses non-punitive methods of discipline and positively offers guidance.
15. Maintains knowledge and implementation of New York State Office of Children and Family Services regulations, pathways accreditation, quality stars, and experimental prekindergarten program / universal prekindergarten children guidelines *
16. Conducts monthly supervision of staff, reviewing the performance of carrying out lesson plans, following teaching pyramid practices, engaging with children, and contributing to a clean, safe environment.
17. Team planning and shared teaching responsibilities between teachers and assistants.
18. Able to adapt to the immediate situation and change plans as needed.
19. Ensure that a minimum of two times outside time occurs daily per OCFS requirements. *
20. Ensure that smart boards are only used 10-15 minutes daily and must be reflected in the lesson plan.
21. Implement the use of the PATHS curriculum for social and emotional development weekly.
22. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Language Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know word processing software, payroll systems, internet software, email software, and database software.
Education/Experience:
Masters Degree with B-2 Certification.
Specialized Training:
· B-2 NYS Teaching Certification
· RECAP, CLASS, ECERS, COR
Certificates and Licenses:
