This position is responsible for enhancing the productivity, efficiency, and safety of the site by providing state-of-the-art automation systems and collaboration on capital investments. The incumbent will be accountable to fully support site projects, retrofit and implement new systems; including PLCs, process instrumentation; and foster a positive and innovative work environment. The position will also ensure compliance of instrumentation calibration and documentation for the site cGMP process and other highly hazardous chemical processes. In addition, this position will provide guidance and training for the instrument and electrical technicians.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide technical support through all phases of capital and expense projects. Specify electrical, instrumentation, controls products and systems to meet project specifications, contracts and new business development.
Provide troubleshooting assistance to the plant distributed control system and instrumentation.
Develop cleaning, maintenance, inspection plans and procedures for all electrical equipment and instrumentation.
Improve and implement electrical/controls, hardware, and software systems in process equipment for new and existing machinery. Troubleshoot systems as needed.
Maintain instrumentation calibration and setup records. Ensure instrumentation calibrations are followed directly and provide guidance and solutions for instrumentation out of specification.
Develop and schedule training as needed for new instrumentation and technology for the instrumentation and electrical technicians.
STRATEGIC FOCUS:
Provide comprehensive technical support for continuous improvement and sustainability with a focus on long term solutions. Schedule and develop training exercises to increase the knowledge and skills of the instrument and electrical technicians. Continue to research and implement best practices for preventive maintenance of instrumentation. Establish guidelines for the standardization of site instrumentation.

Qualifications
Strong communication and organization skills are important for this position to be able to understand and influence the opinions of others. The incumbent must have broad-based knowledge of instrumentation and controls. The person in this position must be able to cope with the stress of working on several tasks concurrently and dealing with the critical deadlines.
The incumbent should have a four-year technical degree and/or continuing education in instrumentation and controls plus five years’ experience in the chemical industry with an emphasis on instrumentation.

The incumbent frequently encounters multiple situations that require thorough analysis or evaluation to arrive at the best decision. The maintenance manager and business engineering manager are consulted on decisions with a major impact to the budget or production schedule. General direction is received from the maintenance manager and the company’s guidelines and policies. Support is received from engineers, purchasing, safety, environmental and project manager for unusual problems.
