Hotline Domestic Violence Advocate
The Domestic Violence Advocate is responsible for staffing the Interval House Hotline and Safe House Programs on a 24-hour, seven-day per week basis. The day is covered by three shifts: daytime (7am to 3pm), evening (3pm to11pm) and night (11pm to 7am). Each shift carries specific responsibilities including responding to crisis hotline calls, maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable, and supportive environment for victims of domestic violence and the children residing in the Safe House.
This job also requires working rotating shifts including holidays, evenings, overnights, and weekends. Applicants should have flexible availability for various shifts, including last minute coverage for call-outs.
Duties
· Willing to obtain certification as a battered women’s counselor under CGS 52- l 46K, which is required upon successful completion of IH’s training program
· Answer domestic violence hotline calls promptly, with professional and compassionate manner.
· Complete telephone intake for all first-time callers, making sure the information is accurately reflected in the appropriate database and/or forms.
· Obtain information from the caller to assess the nature of the call; provide accurate information, support, referrals, domestic violence education and safety planning.
· If shelter is requested, explore all options with caller and make the necessary arrangements to ensure their safety.
· Provide callers with the full range of organization’s services, legal options and resources available to them from community partners.
· Assist hotline callers and residential clients in clarifying goals and developing strategies to reach their goals.
· Accurately document summary of calls, including outcome and referrals.
· Return Hotline calls within 30 minutes if a return phone call is required.
