The Role:
As an Atlas Litigation Paralegal, you will be an integral part of our employment and consumer law teams, contributing to operational efficiencies and strengthening our legal support framework. This crucial role involves collaborating with paralegal teams, assisting with hiring, training, and development, and supporting paralegals and paralegal support personnel across the organization.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications For An Atlas Litigation Paralegal
- Exemplary Character and Comprehensive Skill Set: Demonstrates exemplary character, inherent kindness, humility, a positive personality, and a strong desire for team success. Proven ability to collaborate with clients, attorneys, and staff; manage litigation cases and prepare legal documents; draft federal complaints, discovery requests, motions, and notices; handle docketing; support training programs; deliver exceptional client service; foster team communication; manage resources efficiently; prepare for depositions, hearings, and trials; conduct legal research; analyze documents; take a proactive approach; utilize legal AI tools; and pursue professional development. Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, Law, or a related field required; advanced qualifications are a plus. Minimum of seven years of paralegal experience, including 3 years in a litigation role; leadership experience is a plus. A strong understanding of employment and consumer law is preferred but not required. Must successfully pass a litigation skills test.
- Team Collaboration and Support: Collaborate effectively and professionally with clients and all levels of personnel, including attorneys, coworkers, and administrators, fostering a culture that aligns with the firm's values and goals.
- Operational Efficiency: Contribute to the daily operations by streamlining processes to enhance productivity, implementing efficient management strategies, and ensuring adherence to firm policies and legal standards. Assist in developing and refining operational systems to manage document flows, case management, and communication channels effectively. Ensure alignment with the firm's operational protocols and work together to meet critical deadlines.
- Case Management and Document Preparation: Support the management of litigation matters by preparing and organizing legal documents for court filings, trials, and hearings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards. Draft federal complaints for filing in federal court, draft and answer discovery requests, and manage docketing through the firm's docketing software. Draft motions and notices to be filed, and assist with cite and fact-checking legal briefs and assembling exhibits and appendices.
- Training and Development: Own your professional development by seeking out feedback and learning new skills. Participate in and support the development and implementation of training programs for paralegals and support staff to ensure proficiency in current and emerging legal issues. Engage in continuous professional development and support the growth of the team by participating in ongoing education and training opportunities.
Client Service: Promote a client-centered approach by supporting attorneys in delivering unparalleled service. Communicate, correspond, and interact with clients and outside entities, such as government entities, expert witnesses, vendors, corporations, and other law firms to gather information or data. Possess strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with attorneys and staff.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Foster effective communication and collaboration within the paralegal team and across the firm to ensure cohesive operations. Be flexible to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities.
- Resource Management: Assist in the distribution of resources to effectively handle caseloads and support the recruitment and integration of new team members as needed.
- Case and Trial Preparation: Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings, and trials by organizing exhibits, coordinating witness schedules, and managing trial logistics.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research to support case strategies, ensuring thorough preparation and comprehensive understanding of legal precedents and regulations. Perform research (factual, legal, internet, and other) to identify issues and relevant matters; prepare a compilation of findings.
- Document Analysis: Compile, review, and analyze documents as required by attorneys specific to case issues and determine necessary information. Serve as a factual resource on cases and demonstrate knowledge of case documents.
- Proactive Approach: Be a proactive self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context and requires minimal training. Work under tight deadlines, handle multiple detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately, and delegate to available resources. Anticipate problems and issues, exercise independent judgment to make sound decisions, and know when and to whom to escalate issues. Deliver high-quality work product, follow up and follow-through, and take ownership of deliverables while being accountable. Work independently with minimal supervision, as well as be a team player in a fast-paced environment. Effectively work in a multi-office and culturally diverse environment.
- Legal AI Skills: Possess skills in legal artificial intelligence tools such as document automation software, legal research platforms, contract analysis tools, e-discovery software, and litigation analytics tools. If you do not have such skills, be prepared to learn and adopt them early on.
- Educational Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, or a related field is required. A Law degree, advanced degree, and/or certification is a plus.
- Experience: A minimum of 7 years of paralegal experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role specifically in employment law.
- Labor and Employment Law: A plus if candidate possess a comprehensive understanding of employment law and legal procedures.
- Consumer Law: A plus if candidate possess a comprehensive understanding of consumer laws and federal procedure.
Compensation and Benefits:
The annual compensation for this position ranges from $65,000 to $75,000, varying based on the candidate's qualifications. Compensation determination is influenced by several key factors, including the candidate's exemplary character, inherent kindness, humility, positive personality, and strong desire for team success.
Additional emphasis is placed on exceptional and proven litigation skills, leadership skills and comprehensive experience, reflecting a candidate's ability to manage complex, high volume legal environments effectively and adapt quickly.
