Duties: Performs a variety of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks involved in maintaining parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and picnic areas. Performs weeding, mowing, edging, plants flowers, tree and shrub pruning, digging, sodding, leaf pick-up, trash removal and other general landscape maintenance tasks. Assists with set-up and tear-down of tables, chairs and other festival items for special events. Responsible for performing all work duties in a safe manner. Responsible for taking proper care of all work tools and equipment in custody. Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours: This position is a seasonal position, depending on weather conditions this position generally starts early spring; season ends late fall. This position works approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 6:30/7:00am to 3:00/3:30 pm. May be requested to work overtime which may include weekends depending on the needs of the Park District. Individuals that are not able to work the entire season may still apply to be considered for late spring and summer work only.
Must be an adult at least 18 years of age. Prefer an individual that has experience related to grounds maintenance. Prefer an individual that possesses a valid Illinois Drivers' License. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and understand the English language. Individual must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to operate light and heavy equipment including riding mowers, push mowers, weed whackers, and other landscape equipment and tools. This position works outside in all weather conditions and is exposed to extreme weather conditions which may include high heat and humidity, rain and cold weather. Must be able to pass a criminal background and driving record check.
