Primary Medical Assistant
Location: Traveling position to South and North side of Indianapolis.
The Primary Medical Assistant is responsible for the mangement of patient care representing their assigned physician.
Duties: include the following
- Acts as main source of communication with the patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies the Physician of the patients condition and reaction to medications, treatments and any other abnormal activity.
- Handles patient emergency situations for established and new patients via phone and/or in person.
- Initiates patient history for physician by interviewing the patient as to chief complaints, previous and current symptoms, medications and allergies.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient and patient's family.
- Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, and equipment for office examination procedures as necessary.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments.
- Aids Physician in the examination and treatment of the patient.
- Maintains Physician's Surgery Schedule notifying the Front Office Staff of any changes affecting Office Scheduling. This includes preparing H&Ps, scheduluing surgery with hospital staff, insuring necessary equipment is available.
- Prepares preoperative and post operative instructions for the patient and the patient's family.
- Pre-certifies surgeries and/or test.
- Instruct patients about medications, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
- Prepares prescription refills and medication requests for physician approval and follows through with notifying the patient or requesting facility of the Physician's response.
- Communicates with outside physicians when necessary.
- Attends department and staff meetings as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 10 per week
