School/College/Division Description
The Graduate School is an administrative office that supports a wide range of functions related to graduate education across UWM. The Graduate School:
- Manages graduate student admissions, matriculation, and graduation
- Manages processing of cases of graduate student academic misconduct, dismissals, and appeals
- Supports development and implementation of campus policies governing Graduate academic programs and students
- Supports governance committees that develop graduate policies, review and approve curriculum, and conduct periodic program reviews
- Supports the review and awarding of fellowships managed by the Graduate School
- Supports graduate student recruitment and retention efforts
Job Summary
Researches, plans, and designs usable and accessible systems, services, and content to support user needs, meet project goals, and advance institutional priorities. Develops and leads training and outreach efforts to advance institutional capacity for user-centered practices.
The User Experience Architect manages the creation, implementation, analysis, and modification of usable and accessible systems, services, and content to support the UWM Office of Research and the Graduate School. Working with in-house systems, acquired commercial packages, and Cloud-hosted systems, the incumbent will research, design, and monitor systems, routines, and services, especially around e-workflows, to advance the operations and outreach of our user-facing systems.
The office of Information Technology and Assessment (ITA) supports the mission of the UWM Office of Research and the Graduate School. The Graduate School is an administrative unit that supports a wide range of functions related to graduate education across UWM including admissions, graduation, and various other functions related to graduate education. The Office of Research supports the broad campus research mission, including compliance, extramural funding administration, strategic research planning, and a range of internal programs providing direct support to faculty and staff members, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students engaged in research activity.
Major Job Duties:
- Collaborates with campus stakeholders to establish criteria for e-workflow applications.
- Designs and builds user-centric and accessible e-workflow pipelines based on agreed criteria.
• Tests, validates, debugs, maintains, and serves as point-of-contact for custom e-workflow solutions. • Develops end-user documentation for e-workflow solutions.
- Integrates data from campus information systems into e-workflow application and review pipelines.
- Incorporates data from e-workflow solutions into other campus data systems, reports, and dashboards.

- Ability to train nontechnical colleagues in the use of e-workflow systems.
- Ability to develop easy-to-follow technical documentation (both written and recorded voice-over video).
Additional Desired Competences:

- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JSON.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Lists.
- Experience using and querying Oracle and MariaDB relational databases using SQL.

• Experience developing automations in Microsoft Power Automate and Power Automate Desktop. • Experience melding information from disparate data sources into cohesive information sets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field OR evidence of equivalent work experience
- At least 1 year of experience creating user-centric and accessible e-workflow pipelines (Survey Monkey Apply, BP Logix, etc.) OR equivalent experience building online user surveys (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Microsoft Forms, etc.) OR developing online course materials (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of evidence experience developing e-workflow systems
- Experience developing surveys and e-workflow systems using Survey Monkey, Qualtrics, BP Logix, Microsoft Forms, Canvas, Blackboard, or similar platforms
- Experience developing reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI
- Experience developing automation workflows in Microsoft Power Automate and Power Automate Desktop
- Previous experience working in a higher education environment
