The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant (DA) to join its Orthodontic Division. The Orthodontics Division provides excellent, comprehensive orthodontic treatment for all ages. The orthodontic faculty members are leaders in their profession, and you will work with respected clinicians and educators work along with our orthodontic resident to provide the best care to our patients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for direct chairside orthodontic assisting for all Ortho residents, dental students, and faculty in the orthodontic clinic in the College of Dentistry; dispenses, receives, processes/sterilizes and purchases instruments, equipment and supplies used in the delivery of orthodontic treatment; provides oral hygiene instructions, ensures efficient operation during faculty and clinical sessions; fabricates vacuum formed retainers, pours and trims models; performs intraoral scans and radiographs. Interfaces with patients, parents, faculty, Ortho residents, dental assistants, and staff in the graduate Ortho clinic.
A dental assistant needs to be able to: use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 7:30am to 4:30pm
Tuesday, Friday 12:30pm to 4:30pm
Salary
$18.61 - $24.81/hour
Position Requirements
Required: 2 years in dental office practices and procedures, dental operatory practices and procedures, four-handed assisting techniques, inventory record-keeping, care of dental equipment, using a computer. Radiology License.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
Desired: Orthodontic experience, preferably in a dental setting desired; experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments; experience in an educational setting, computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/email desired.
