Ranch Hand (RH)
Purpose of Position: Ranch Hand (RH) is responsible for agricultural duties, maintenance and repair work around the ranch and some animal husbandry. Job duties include dragging arenas, hot walker, and round pens, cleaning out storm drains, maintain good ground footing in outside corrals, pasture and aisleways, minor vehicle maintenance and upkeep, PVC water line replacement and repair, corral panel and shelter maintenance, facility upkeep and improvements, landscaping, and maintenance, brush clearing, general handy-work, and know how to drive/operate tractors and other ranch vehicles. The RH will muck out stalls and feed horses.
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title. As needed, the employee will be expected to perform any necessary duties in support of the effective operation of the ranch.
Essential Job Functions
· Feed all horses their prescribed diet as directed.
· Feed chickens, and other animals.
· Prepare feed for the next feeding, including reloading buckets and hay cart.
· Clean and re-bed horse stalls, outside pens, turnout areas, hot walker, round pen, stall mats and arena daily.
· Ensure the horse barn, crossties, pastures, water troughs, hay barn and surrounding areas are clean.
· Clean stall walls as needed.
· Keep concrete and dirt roads free from manure and debris as needed.
· Clean and refill cat and dog water containers.
· Maintain automatic waterers and water troughs daily for function and clean as needed.
· Clean feed troughs and buckets regularly., load and unload hay and various feed.
· Drag and maintain ground/footing on hot walker, round pen, and arena.
· Repair and maintain gravel roads and paths.
· Clean chicken coops and replace straw bedding.
· Maintain water systems: sprinklers, drip irrigation, well water tanks, active well pumps as needed and irrigate pastures as directed.
· Maintain water fountains including filtration system.
· Assist with various other repairs, maintenance and building projects.
· Perform regular maintenance and repairs on all tractors, vehicles, and equipment. Ensure that ranch equipment, and tools are operational by performing routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning equipment, tools and making minor repairs as needed.
· Perform regular maintenance on vinyl fencing, pipe stall fencing and posts.
· Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of staff facilities.
· Perform various landscaping, brush clearing, tree trimming and gardening tasks.
· Weed control including the use of weed eaters, spraying of herbicides, insecticides, and other approved chemicals per specific product instructions.
· Maintain and repair all storm drain systems, including prepping storm drains with sandbags to prevent drains from clogging, clearing clogged storm drains, and gutters, etc.
· Provide and maintain appropriate cover for hay and manure container in rainy season.
· Dispose all trash material.
Loss Prevention and Safety
· Handle and move horses safely when needed.
· Safely operate light vehicles and farm machinery such as pick-up trucks, tractors, riding mowers, plows, mowers, gators, and perform regular maintenance to prevent extensive repairs.
· Safely operate various types of tools and equipment per operational manuals and wear appropriate safety equipment.
· Follow Fire Watch protocols when Hot Work is being performed. Hot work is work that might generate enough heat, sparks, or flame to cause a fire. Hot work includes welding, flame cutting, soldering, brazing, grinding.
· Participate in weekly safety meetings.
· Assist with company safety and fire protocols, participate in bi-annual fire evacuation drills.
· React immediately and appropriately to any ranch emergency that could adversely affect the animals or property.
· Maintain a safe working environment for animals, employees, and guests.
· Assist in constant monitoring of ranch grounds and ranch animals by maintaining a high level of safety awareness and adhere to and enforce all safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.
· Report all abnormalities immediately.

Job Type: Full Time, Part Time. Requires working weekends and holidays. Additional hours may be assigned based on operational needs and performance. The RH is supervised by the Ranch Manager and Ranch Director.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 per week
