Position Summary:
Hospice Maui is seeking Registered Nurses living on Molokai or Lanai to join our clinical team in furthering the mission of Hospice Maui:
- To provide professional, ethical, culturally appropriate, and deeply compassionate hospice care to a diverse community.
- To provide physical comfort and emotional and spiritual support for people who are terminally ill.
- To help people discover the gifts that preparing for the death of a loved one can bring: compassion, insight, courage, humility, inspiration, confidence, and growth.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Obtains information from referral sources and presents hospice program information to patients and their families; coordinates admissions and all hospice-related care.
- Completes an initial, individualized, comprehensive and on-going assessments of patient and family to determine hospice needs.
- Develops and updates a plan of care for the hospice patient and their caregivers in collaboration with the physician and interdisciplinary team.
- Utilizes principles of palliative and hospice philosophy to provide holistic hospice care for patients, caregivers, and families. Administers medications and treatments as prescribed in the plan of care.
- Manages patient symptoms, provides patient and family education, and orders DME and medication as needed.
- Mentors patient/family/caregivers through the dying process.
- Assists the patient with the activities of daily living as needed and facilitates the patient’s efforts toward self-sufficiency and optimal comfort care.
- Provides direct supervision of Hospice Aides.
- Completes and maintains accurate, timely and relevant clinical documentation.
- Maintains communication with the physician and works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and with the family/care giver to meet the emotional needs and enhance the quality of life of the patient and family/caregiver.
- Demonstrates good judgment in providing care and sensitivity in respecting cultural diversity.

Position Qualifications:
- Current resident of Moloka’i or Lana’i.
- Graduate of a National League of Nursing accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
- Current Hawaii RN license in good standing
- Current CPR certification.
- Two years of nursing experience in hospice, home health, hospital, or the other healthcare facility preferred.
- Experience with pain and symptom management to include infusion pumps.
- Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care; comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
- Possess excellent observation, critical thinking, time management and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and work independently without supervision.
- Driver’s license, and reliable personal vehicle insured in accordance with State requirements.
- Technical skills with electronic medical records systems, smart phones, and iPads.
- Ability to lift, position and transfer patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Visual acuity and hearing to perform required nursing skills.

Pay: $45.82 - $48.82 per hour
