RECEPTIONIST JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Receptionist
JOB GOAL: To contribute to effective public relations by prompt and courteous handling of all inquiries and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess High School Diploma
2. Advanced secretarial training beyond the high school level.
3. Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Salary Matrix
SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets all visitors courteously, determines their needs, checks appointments, and directs or escorts them to the proper person.
- Operates telephone switchboard to relay incoming calls.
- Answers office telephone and responds appropriately to the request for information.
- Answers questions of callers according to school policy; takes messages for staff members, and pages personnel over the intercom system.
- Maintains an alphabetical file of staff members; names, room locations, and telephone extensions to expedite relaying of calls.
- Maintains an attractive and comfortable reception area which includes a reading table stacked with current school district publications and periodicals of general interest.
- Reports immediately the presence in the building of any visitor who by-passes the reception desk and/or any suspicious activity or unusual behavior on the part of the visitor.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
- Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate typewriter, photocopying machines and computers. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education’s policies.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Twelve months: Other contract terms and salary to be established by the Board.
