Position: Engineer, Aircraft Structure

POSITION SUMMARY
Aeronautix, located in Wichita, KS, specializes in the design, installation, and certification of aeronautical products and modifications for the aircraft civilian, military and special mission industries. We are seeking a highly motivated innovator with the technical expertise to efficiently design, analyze, test and FAA certify aircraft structure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
2D and 3D conception, layout and detail design using AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS:
- aircraft primary structure
- aircraft secondary structure
- structural installation of aircraft systems and equipment
Predictive and substantiating data development using standard analytical techniques:
- internal and external load distributions
- stress and fatigue evaluation of aircraft primary and secondary structure using classical analytic methods (hand calculations)
- stress and fatigue evaluation of aircraft primary and secondary structure using finite element models / simulations or other analytical tools
- durability and damage tolerance
- dynamic structural characteristics such as bird-strike, flutter, and vibration and buffet
Lab, aircraft ground and flight test support in areas such as environmental qualification, component test and full-scale structural test:
- requirements definition
- test plan development
- test fixture design
- instrumentation requirements
- test conduct
- test data post processing / reduction
- test report development
FAA aircraft certification:
- FAA ODA project support applicable to FAA 14 CFR part 23 or 25 STC approvals
- standard FAA certification project support applicable to PMA, major alteration, and major repair approvals
- develop structural compliance reports to support 14 CFR part 23 / 25 structural compliance findings
- provide structural review, comment, and approval of engineering drawings
- provide structural review, comment, and concurrence with FAA STC project certification plans
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- accept and complete other job-related duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace or structural engineering
- experience in the field of aircraft structural engineering
- highly skilled with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)
- exceptional proficiency in the design / drafting process using AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS
- experience with both composite and metallic material specifications and processes
- proficient with MSC Pastran, MSC Nastran and Simcenter Femap
- extremely detailed oriented
- exceptional written and oral communication skills
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- experience working FAA aircraft certification projects
- experience with the interpretation / application of 14 CFR part 23 and 25 regulations / policy
- FAA structural DER or ODA unit member
COMPENSATION
- $80,000 - $175,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience
- sign on bonus commensurate with qualifications and experience
