Position: Food Services Assistant/Driver
Job Description
Addressing food insecurity is a vital part of the daily operations of Onslow Community Outreach’s (OCO) programs. The successful candidate will have a dedication to food safety and eliminating hunger in Onslow County. The Food Services Assistant maintains a clean, neat, and food-ready area. The assistant also unloads trucks and receives deliveries, sorts and stocks donations, and leads volunteer efforts. The Food Services Assistant/Driver is responsible for the procurement and delivery of food through direct interactions with the public and partner organizations.
Schedule is Monday thru Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, up to 40 hours per week.
Essential Job Functions
- Pick-up food at grocery stores and/or farmers’ markets along designated route
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with store/market managers and vendors
- Work with Logistics management to maximize efficiency of the collection of food.
- Unload food, weigh food, and position food in food storage area.
- Distribute food at assigned sites.
- Ensure participants are treated with respect.
- Collect data from participants at distribution sites.
- Help participants load the food into their cars or other transportation.
- Pick-up and unload donated food as required.
- Drop off food at assigned sites.
- Maintenance and Use of company vehicle
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicles on a daily basis
- Follow all applicable driving regulations as required by the State of North Carolina
- Assist in the soup kitchen as required.
- Checking in, weighing, and sorting of the donations to the soup kitchen.
- Stocking all food that comes into the soup kitchen.
- Assist with food bank distribution.
- Instruct new volunteers, community service workers, and SAT students on their duties in the soup kitchen.
- Promote teamwork among all volunteers.
- Able to assist director with any other duties as needed
Job Requirements
- Demonstrated ability and experience driving box truck
- Ability to lift objects of 50 pounds continually and up to 100 pounds waist high occasionally and load them into vehicles.
- Exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work as a part of a team as well as individually.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license with the proven ability to drive any Onslow Community Outreach vehicle.
- Clean driving record with no moving violations in the past two years and no major violations in the past ten years.
- Pre-employment Drug Screening
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. The employee must be able to stand continuously for up to 3 hours at a time.
