Job description:
Hospital Service Coordinators (HSCs) coordinate transportation for veterans to and from their medical appointments.
Knowledge:
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data and property.
- Transportation - Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people by road, including the relative costs and benefits.

Occupation Specific Tasks:
- Announce arrival and departure information, using public-address systems.
- Answer inquiries regarding such information as schedules, accommodations, procedures, and policies.
- Assemble and issue required documentation such as itineraries.
- Direct volunteers and patients to designated locations for loading.
- Confer with patients to determine their service requirements and travel preferences.
- Contact volunteers or patients to advise them of travel conveyance changes or to confirm reservations.
- Determine whether space is available on travel dates requested by patients, and assign requested spaces when available.
- Inform volunteers and patients of essential travel information such as travel times, transportation connections, and policies.
- Maintain computerized inventories of available passenger space, and provide information on space reserved or available.
- Make and confirm reservations for transportation and accommodations, using telephones, faxes, mail, and computers.
- Open and close office and keep clean during operation.
- Plan routes, itineraries, and accommodations using computers, phone and fax.

- Interacting With Computers - Using computers and computer systems
(including hardware and software) to enter data and process information.
- Working Directly with the Public – Providing customer service and conduct yourself in a professional manner.

Detailed Work Activities:
- Setting up a HSC office at assigned VA facility and ensuring it is adequately staffed full-time
- HSC is not allowed to transport veterans or equipment while an employee of the DAV.
- Conduct themselves appropriately and within employment policy manual
- answer questions from agencies or public
- communicate with volunteers and patients to disseminate information
- develop travel itinerary
- ensure correct grammar, punctuation, or spelling
- fill out business or government forms
- inform volunteers and patients of travel restrictions
- obtain information from individuals

- provide travel suggestions
- read maps
- request reports or records
- skill in computer programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer a must. Other programs as necessary to carry duties of a HSC
- use telephone communication techniques
- write professional business correspondence
- Provide program status orally and in type written format to the DAV at is convention and conferences
- schedule fleet for regular or special maintenance needs
- recruit volunteers, drivers and coordinators
- gather information to provide accurate reports to include but not limited to: o name and contact information for volunteers o volunteer hours and mileage o numbers of patients transported along with date and place o mileage and maintenance of vans o keep accurate van schedules for each area assigned o report all accidents to Chief of Voluntary Services, Department
Commander and Adjutant o timely and accurate time sheets to the department Treasurer, Adjutant and
Commander
- Other tasks as assigned by the Department Commander or Adjutant
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
