Program Overview
The Summer Academic and Employment Program Tutor position is an innovative position created to support rising 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students participating in SFUSD summer school and in danger of not receiving a high school diploma. Under the supervision of the YCD Site Coordinator, Academic Coaches/Tutors will be instrumental in assisting youth with improving academic achievement-through daily tutorials, workshops, and presentations— while they participate in YCD’s summer programming.
POSITION SUMMARY
Summer Youth Academic and Employment (SYAEP) Academic Coach / Tutor is a 6-week full time (40 hours per week) non-exempt position. The job starts June 3, 2024 and ends July 19, 2024. This position is contract-based and scheduled to end June 30, 2024, with a pending extension. Tutors will be assigned according to student demand, tutor availability, and coordination with teachers and the SYAEP Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be willing to work at a school site location and follow all COVID-related guidelines.
Provide individual and small group tutoring to students.
Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.
Review individual files every day for new assignments and announcements.
Contact assigned students within two days of receiving the assignment.
Complete and hand in all required paperwork.
Other assistance might include- reviewing class material, discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.
Attend up to 40 hours of summer program training (including prep, orientation, etc.).
Be punctual for all scheduled tutoring sessions and all other events/meetings as directed.
Co-create and facilitate job readiness and college and career workshops.

A successful candidate will possess:
A college degree or proof of current college enrollment.
Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature.
Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diversity of students.
Clearance of TB test and fingerprinting are required.
Embraces cultural differences and is willing to foster diversity, equity and inclusion.
Strong commitment to the mission/vision of Young Community Developers and to individuals from diverse populations and backgrounds. Emphasis on understanding historical and socio-economic impacts within D9 and D10 of San Francisco.
Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and ability and a desire to work with economically and culturally diverse clients.

JOB TYPE: Full Time; 40/hours – Non-exempt
COMPENSATION: $24.00/hour
