: This position is responsible for keeping records of court business, including financial record-keeping, for Town or Village courts. The work is performed under supervision of the appropriate judicial officer, and in accordance with state requirements for recording and reporting court actions.

Takes notes at court sessions, arraignments, hearings and other proceedings;
Sends appropriate follow-up correspondence such as letters requesting fines and/or bail for defendants who failed to appear or plead via mail;
Records and indexes all traffic and penal law violations, reporting to district agencies as required;
Has responsibility for financial transactions of the court, such as receiving and making receipts for fines, bails, filing fees;
Makes bank deposits and prepares checks for Judge’s signature;
Prepares monthly report and monetary submission to State Comptroller;
May schedule or reschedule court appearances;
May assist in drawing jury when necessary;
Answers telephone inquiries on procedures, rules, etc.;
Works with judicial officer on case records;
Performs research upon request of attorneys, defendants, police agencies, etc.;
Does other work as required by Town Justices.
: Good knowledge of record-keeping as required for a municipal court; working knowledge of account keeping; working knowledge of state and local laws, rules, regulations, procedures and policies as they related to court operations; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to prepare reports; integrity; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma plus one (1) year of clerical experience
