General:
The Assistant Controller works directly with the Club’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to assist in the oversight of all financial aspects of the Club. This is a hands-on position that requires detailed experience in all aspects of accounting including accounts receivable and payable, general ledger and financial reporting, internal audit functions, budgets and forecasting, and cash flow management. This position requires access to confidential information of a personal nature concerning staff and members. This information must be kept highly confidential and handled with the uppermost discretion.
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required, pursuit of CPA certification a plus
- 3-5 years relevant work experience, experience in Club accounting preferred
- Jonas club management/POS experience preferred. Strong excel skills required.
- Detail oriented with a strong background in general ledger reconciliation and analysis.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Assists in month end close procedures, including the preparation of journal entries and financial statements.
2. Assists in monitoring performance to budget and identifying variances. Assists department managers with information and analysis, as necessary.
3. Assists in the preparation and oversight of monthly bank reconciliations and bank compliance.
4. Assists in the oversight and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, monthly.
5. Assists in the preparation of monthly reports for Finance Committee, Board of Directors and other Committees.
6. Ensures the coordination and completion of all daily, weekly, monthly, and annual procedures as outlined by the CFO.
7. Communication with members, club management, club staff, and outside vendors for inquiries, research questions or provide additional information.
8. Assists in the development of Event budgets and reporting event P&L results.
9. Works with the Membership Coordinator to ensure accurate member billing and equity transactions.
10. Reviews billing transactions for accuracy and completeness.
11. Preparation of New Jersey sales and use tax return, and other tax filings as necessary.
12. Maintains fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
13. Participates in the verification of month-end inventories, and other internal audit functions.
14. Monitors cash flow schedules and assists in cash flow projections.
15. Assists in the preparation of annual operating budgets, updated forecasts and projections.
16. Assists in the preparation of annual capital budgets and long range capital planning.
17. Assists in the monitoring and compliance with internal control policies and procedures
18. Assists in the oversight of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and IT.
19. Assist in the coordination of financial information from HR/Payroll.
20. Participates in preparation for external auditors, bank, insurance, and other 3rd party vendors.
21. Cross-trained as backup to other accounting functions, as necessary
22. Assists CFO on special projects and analysis, as necessary.
