The Patient Accounting Lead position is responsible for the oversight and support of the patient accounting specialists. This individual is responsible for coordinating the efforts to resolve complex accounts and ensuring that interactions with patients and insurance companies are compassionate and consistent during billing and follow-up activities.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the daily allocation of responsibilities to the patient accounting specialists
- Conducts data integrity audits to ensure that productivity and quality metrics are consistently met
- Coordinates efforts to improve the performance of the patient accounting specialists as necessary
- Confers with third parties as needed regarding the resolution of accounts
- Oversees special projects developed by department manager
- Acts as a resource for day-to-day operations questions and the training of new team members
- Create and distribute departmental reports
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all third-party reimbursement requirements and/or through knowledge of collection agency procedures and Fair Debt Collection Practices ACT (FDCPA)
- Responsible for the maintenance of appropriate department schedules
- Provides feedback to manager for human resources functions such as hiring, coaching, and counseling
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
Other Related Functions
Attends educational opportunities outside of the department as directed by management
Assists his/her manager in planning and organizing department activities
Takes a proactive role in problem resolution
Facilitate and participate in departmental meetings
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education/Training
High School or GED required.
Must complete Orlando Health staff development within 6 months.
Works proficiently with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote)
Licensure/Certification
HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) certification received within six (6) months
Experience
One (1) year as a Patient Accounts Specialist III or other equivalent position within Revenue Management or minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a related field (medical billing/collections/managed care)
Associate degree in Healthcare Administration, Communications, Business Finance, or related area of study may substitute for 2 years of related experience
