Engineer I-Gas Systems Unit
Colorado Springs Utilities' Operations Engineering department provides engineering solutions to support the safe and reliable performance of our four-service utility assets. Our team is seeking an Engineer I in our Gas Systems Unit to provide engineering support and solutions for gas construction and operations initiatives, in addition to identifying and resolving risk points within our gas distribution infrastructure comprised of more than 5,000 miles of gas mains and service lines.
The scope of work that you will perform in this job can be broken out into the following areas:
Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) Risk Modeling
Utilizing our Gas Distribution Risk Assessment Model via the Synergi Pipeline Software Platform to model risk on our gas assets
Serving as a risk modeling expert through knowledge of data sources, data collection methods, software platform maintenance, and updating model factors
Updating and running our risk model annually; reviewing and validating results with DIMP Program subject matter experts; documenting results/follow-up risk mitigation measures
Executing additional DIMP Program elements as required in accordance with Title 49 CFR, Part 192, Subpart P
Gas Construction and Operations Support
Performing gas tools calibration records management (e.g., fusion equipment, corrosion half cells) and data visualization (Power BI) for Gas Construction and Gas Operations Supervisors
Assisting with forecasting tools and equipment budgets for Gas Construction and Operations groups - this includes vehicles, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs), pipe squeezers, heavy equipment, and road plates
Collaborating with equipment vendors to identify manufacture dates and lifecycles for all existing legacy equipment and entering asset information into the Maximo Work Management System
Conducting weekly field visits to Construction Crews or Operations Personnel
Supporting data collection efforts for gas valve inspections, gas regulator station inspections, and odorant checks
Assisting with material failure investigations as needed
Tracking and Traceability Data Collection Process Planning and Implementation
Serving as a Gas Operations Division hardware expert (e.g., high accuracy GNSS receivers, barcode scanners, laser range finders, iPhones, iPads)
Developing and documenting standard operating procedures for data collection by field personnel with ESRI Field Maps GIS mobile application
Training field crews on digital as-built procedures and overseeing digital as-built close-out process for Operations
Establishing processes for project productivity tracking with GIS spatial data collection
Who You Are:
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited university
Demonstrated basic experience in a gas distribution engineering or regulatory capacity
Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required; this position requires conducting weekly field visits using a Utilities' vehicle
