We are a busy dermatology office looking for a skilled and experienced histotechnician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in Mohs surgery and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. We also encourage gap year students and graduates with a Bachelor's Degree in Science or a related field to apply for hands-on training.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and complex histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and cover-slipping
- Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
- Perform quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and precision of test results
- Perform inventory management and ordering of supplies
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of laboratory procedures and patient information
- Communicate with dermatologists and other medical professionals to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and accreditation standards
- Assist with the preparation of histology and cytology specimens for diagnosis by a dermatopathologist
- Prepare and process tissue specimens for histological examination, including embedding, cutting, and staining
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance and quality control procedures
- Enter data and maintain patient records in laboratory information systems
- Communicate with dermatopathologists, other laboratory personnel, and clinical staff regarding specimen preparation, testing, and results
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Science or a related field
- Experience in Mohs surgery (Preferred)
- Strong knowledge of histology laboratory procedures and techniques
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
