Assistant Chief: Investigations Division – Executive Protection-New York City
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant
Chief in the location noted above and in charge of the Executive Protection Detail of the Attorney
General. Candidates should be hard working, motivated and committed to public service on behalf of
the people of the State of New York.
The Assistant Chief will be responsible for the overall protection of the Attorney General, overseeing
and coordinating assignments for the Protection Detail to include advance work, site and threat
evaluation, transportation assessments and the identification of equipment and personnel needed for
each. The Assistant Chief will provide oversight on administrative matters such as scheduling, time
sheets, expense accounts, state vehicle usage and overtime approval. In addition, the Assistant
Chief will annually evaluate the performance of all Detectives and Detective Supervisors assigned to
the detail. The Assistant Chief will supervise field assignments directly if needed and travel with the
Attorney General when required.
This position is assigned to the Executive Protection Unit. The qualifications for this position are:
Supervisory and/or Group Leader experience within an executive/dignitary protection unit or
Agency; must have extensive experience in dignitary protection services, both domestic and
foreign; trained and certified in Dignitary Protection; experience leading investigations
regarding threats, both domestic and foreign; experience in coordination with other and
multiple law enforcement agencies, and must have established contacts within the law
enforcement community serving the greater New York City metropolitan area, the United
States and Foreign Service.

Qualifications in addition to those listed above:
It is a requirement of this position that candidates possess and maintain a state of situational
awareness and physical readiness in order to appropriately respond to any executive protection
needs.
Must have at least 10 years of law enforcement experience with a demonstrated record of success in
Dignitary or Executive Protection (i.e., qualified candidates will have military or private sector
experience with “in-close” protection, or private sector experience in the areas of site security,
threat/risk assessments, experience coordinating operations between government agencies or non-
governmental organizations or private sector entities).
Must have current NYS basic police school certification or be able to attain its equivalent.
Must have the ability to drive a vehicle and possess a valid NYS driver’s license.
The Public Officer’s Law requires that police officers at the OAG be citizens of the United States and
reside in New York State.
Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends and
requires 24/7 availability. This position is in the exempt class, and applicants serve at the pleasure of
the Attorney General. The Hire Rate for this position is $132,279. Appointments in New York City
receive an additional $3,400 location pay.
