The Alabama Council on Human Relations (ACHR) seeks candidates for an Early Head Start Home Visitor/Parent Educator position. This position will service the Lee County Alabama area.
The individual selected will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing home and socialization activities for home-based Early Head Start (EHS) children and families; maintaining the smooth functioning of the home-based program by working in a team with other EHS staff to ensure EHS families and children receive services and for supporting activities in the home and center with assigned families; displaying appropriate work habits, keeping necessary records, participating in training; upholding agency policies, practices, and procedures.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Continuously recruit prenatal participants and infants/toddlers for the EHS Home-Based Program.; keeping a full caseload at all times.
- Must have own vehicle to recruit and then visit families in their homes once a week throughout Lee County.
- Provide information about ACHR and the Early Head Start (EHS) Home Based program to individuals who may be interested in participating in the program.
- Recruit program participants by putting out notices, sending out flyers and/or copies of applications, and following up on referrals from community providers.
- Attend community events to meet and talk with community partners to promote ACHR and the Home Based program as well as EHS and Head Start in general.
- Schedule visits with parents before visiting in the home.
- Assess home for child safety and share tips with parent if improvements are needed.
- Plan home visit activities to provide developmentally appropriate, meaningful experiences for the child and caregiver.
- Model effective strategies to support child’s learning
- Provide parents with information about child development, as well as health, and nutrition, setting goals for child and family, and assist with useful referrals to other agencies that could help meet parents’ goals.
- Document visits to meet program regulations and agency procedures including use of Teaching Strategies Gold to assess ongoing child development.
- Keep parents informed of relevant agency information.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a CDA in the Infant/Toddler area, an associate degree from an accredited institution in Child Development, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Early Childhood Education, Human Development and Family Studies, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a field related is desired. Will consider a Bachelor’s degree in another related field with documented child development coursework or childcare certificate.
