Animal Welfare Specialist
JOB SUMMARY- Aside from the general care of animals, we are looking for someone that is well organized and good at prioritizing tasks. We are looking for someone with good communication and problem-solving skills. It is also important to be able to work and communicate in a team environment because you will not only be working with your immediate department, but also with the veterinary team, and fosters/adopters/volunteers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Ensuring that the animals have ample, fresh water at all times and food during designated times
- .On leash training working with dogs independently and in group sessions with other handlers.
- Support of playgroup management either by bringing dogs to play yards or by assisting Lead within yards during playgroups.
- Provide in-kennel enrichment.
- Report to Supervisor or Lead Trainer any concerns preventing safe and effective handling.
- Obtain and upload photos and videos of dogs' progress.
- Cleaning Kennel areas to support kennel functions.
- Reporting significant changes in presentation and function to the supervisor and/or Veterinarian or medical professional on duty.
This list of duties in not all inclusive and other duties will be assigned to support the welfare of the animals
Physical Requirements:
- Physically demanding work, walking, and standing all day.
- Exposure to high noise levels in the animal kennel environment.
- Exposure to behaviorally challenged animals and zoonotic diseases.
- Exposure to all weather conditions.
- Lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
- Current or previous kennel experience or pet care in a rescue, kennel, or veterinary environment
- Excellent communications, organizational skills.
- Shows maturity, good judgment and performs duties in a professional manner.
- Proficiency with use of computers (word/excel, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
