GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:
The Associate Security Manager, Fire Safety is responsible for the oversight of all Fire Safety Officers. Safeguarding the people and property in Museum buildings and outer perimeters from the hazards of fire is a paramount concern. A key component of your role is the oversight of preventative, periodic maintenance of all fire protection equipment to ensure proper functionality and to ensure and maintain fire safety for the Museum’s collection, proprietary facilities, visitors, and staff. You must possess a solid knowledge of NYC fire safety codes and regulations, work with the appropriate Museum stakeholders to implement preventative fire safety measures, effectively communicate and collaborate with Buildings and Construction to maintain building safety standards, create and implement safety policies, and train staff regarding the appropriate fire safety procedures. You will ensure that Fire Safety Officers perform daily systematic fire safety inspections of all Museum buildings, and regularly instruct Museum personnel in the safe and efficient operation of fire extinguishers, and methods of transmitting alarms. You will participate and ensure that Fire Safety Officers proactively respond to all fire and medical emergencies that take place in the Museum and investigate and report the possible causes of fire and fire hazards, while taking the appropriate response and mitigation actions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:
Develop fire safety plans and protocols.
Conduct inspections and risk assessments by identifying potential fire hazards, inspecting fire safety equipment, and ensuring compliance with NYC fire safety regulations. (NFPA 25)
Coordinating with the Senior Manager for Emergency Preparedness with emergency services, leading evacuation procedures during emergencies, and assisting with managing crisis situations effectively
Maintain fire safety equipment by ensuring that fire extinguishers, alarms sprinkler systems, and other safety equipment are functional and regularly maintained.
Keep records of all fire suppression system and interior fire alarm panel inspections, incidents, and compliance with fire safety regulations.
Communicate fire safety policies to all relevant stakeholders on the status of fire safety measures.
Stay updated on new fire safety technologies and best practices and implementing improvements to existing fire safety protocols.
Assist the Fire Safety Manger with the supervision of the Fire Safety Officers.
Identify potential safety or fire hazards; take action or make recommendations to eliminate hazards.
Ensure that there are well-developed and current plans for easy evacuation of people in the Museum in case of a fire outbreak.
Assist the Fire Safety Manager with facilitating fire drills, building inspections, and fire safety instruction as directed by Security and Buildings Management.
Ensure compliance with the NYC fire codes, procedures and regulations pertaining to the storage and use of flammable and/or hazardous materials is enforced.
Investigate and implement appropriate disciplinary action on violators of fire safety codes within the Museum.
Ensure Fire Safety Officers effectively act as fire guards during welding and cutting operations.
Ensure immediate response to all emergency medical calls (i.e., slips, trips, falls, general medical concerns) and fire life safety calls (i.e., elevator entrapments, construction safety guidance) reported in the Museum.
Serve as lead contact with NYC Fire Department staff and NYC Fire Inspectors in the absence of the Fire Safety Manager
Oversee education and training of Museum staff, contractors, and volunteers, to ensure that all stakeholders are adequately aware of fire safety code and preventative measures in order to facilitate building and employee safety and reduce fire code violations.
Ensure that Fire Safety policies and procedures are updated regularly.
Other related duties as assigned by the Chief Security Officer, Deputy Chief Security Officer, Associate Chief Security Officer for Special Operations, Manger for Emergency Preparedness, and Manager for Fire Safety.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree preferred.
Full-time firefighting experience from a major municipal fire department or volunteer fire department, required.
Knowledgeable expert in their field and possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written), to maintain fire safety and adequately educate others, required.
Prior management experience, required.
Must be timely and adaptable, responding quickly and effectively to all fire safety issues and medical emergencies.
Extensive experience in reporting and emergency response planning
Must be detail-oriented, organized, and can identify and resolve all fire safety situations.
Must demonstrate resilience and composure under difficult circumstances.
Possess knowledge of the chemistry of fire and knowledge of the NYC fire codes, rules and regulations pertaining to combustibles and flammables.
Proven experience in fire extinguishment.
Individual must possess or qualify for Certificate of Fitness as a fire guard for public assembly and torch operations from the NYC Fire Department.
EMT-b or Paramedic experience, preferred.
Strong leadership skills and a positive attitude
COMPENSATION RATE:
Pay Rate: $90,000.00 / Annually

The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.
Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
