Position Overview
The OT is an active member of the multidisciplinary team that plans, coordinates and implements student-specific educational programs, IEP planning and overall support. The OT leads activities that strengthen student’s functional and practical skill base.
Job Objective/Purpose
Occupational Therapist’s objective is to provide developmental and sensory-motor evaluations of students' to develop occupational therapy treatment plans for students according to but not limited to their IEP plans, to provide inservice training on the role of occupational therapy, sensory-motor development, and identification of sensory-motor deficits for administration, teachers, and staff. The OT is committed to supporting the growth and development of the student population by developing relationships and incorporating each child’s individual differences into daily interactions and treatment plans. The OT is an integral part of assessing students strengths, passions, and abilities to help foster learning and growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
● Conduct comprehensive assessments: Assess students' functional abilities and limitations in areas of motor, cognitive, sensory, and social-emotional development using standardized assessments, observations, and interviews
● Develop individualized treatment plans: Based on assessment results, develop individualized goals, objectives, and interventions to improve students' performance in activities of daily living, motor coordination, sensory integration, and fine motor skills
● Implement therapeutic interventions correct to specific areas of sensory-motor integrative dysfunction
● Support classroom staff with the integration of occupational therapeutic interventions
● Support transitional and vocational programs through activities of daily living skills training
● Implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions, including assistive technology, therapeutic exercises, sensory integration, and adaptive equipment, to support students' progress towards achieving their goals
● Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team: Work collaboratively with the school's team of educators, instructional assistants, speech and language therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, and parents to coordinate services and ensure consistency in students' interventions
● Provide education and support to students, families, and school staff on ways to improve students' functional abilities, promote independence, and support successful transitions to new environments
● Complete monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports and distribute to appropriate parties
● Complete monthly designated student service logs in accordance with timelines for district billing
● Ensure that appropriate OT materials and programs are purchased to implement goals and objectives
● Maintain appropriate office hours to meet with parents and students’ outside providers
● Provide group therapy to selected students and classes
● Provide consultation to educational staff and parents for classroom and home management of perceptual, motor, sensory, and self-care programs
● Refer students and parents to related services which will aid in the student's development
● Participate in meetings to coordinate occupational therapy goals with the total educational program
● Make suggestions toward the future development of the occupational therapy program
● Provide direction, training, and assistance to Instructional Assistants assigned to support the occupational therapy program
● Attend all agency meetings as assigned
Qualifications
● Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university
● Licensed and registered as an OT in State of California
● Utilization of principles and methods of occupational therapeutic techniques
● Strong foundation in Sensory Integration, DIR Floortime and trauma based treatment approaches desired
● Ability to identify and analyze areas of developmental and sensory-motor dysfunction
● Ability to develop and carry out treatment plans, goals, and objectives to correct sensory-motor dysfunctions
● Ability to receive and give supportive feedback for program and performance improvement
● Speak and write effectively

Physical Requirements
Working and engaging/playing with students at Oak Hill School require a considerable amount of strength and physical movement. Employees must be able to perform the following movement functions as needed:
Regularly
● Sitting - Resting position in which the body weight is supported primarily by the buttoks in contact with the ground or a horizontal object such as a chair seat.
● Exert - up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects or equipment and to work/play with students.
Physical Requirements, Continued
● Motor Skills - Picking, pinching or otherwise working primarily with fingers as in handling, typing or writing.
Frequently
● Standing - Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
● Walking/Running - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances for community outings or moving from one classroom/office to another. Running is required for potential emergency situations.
● Reaching - extending the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
● Exert - up to 40 lbs. of force to move objects or equipment and to work/play with students.
● Handling - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand(s)
Occasionally
● Lifting - Up to 25 lbs. raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
● Exert - Up to 80 lbs. Of force to move objects, equipment and to work/play with students.
● Climbing - Ascending or descending stairs, ramps or hills using feet and legs.
● Balancing - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
● Stooping - Bending body downward and forward.

● Kneeling - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.
● Crouching - Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
● Crawling - Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
● Pushing - Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
● Pulling - Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in sustained motion.
Important: An Oak Hill School student may exhibit behaviors such as aggression (e.g. biting, kicking, hitting), property destruction, self-injurious behavior, screaming, etc. Due to the potential safety risk for staff and students associated with working with those who may engage in behaviors of concern, all staff are required to be certified by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) to handle potentially dangerous situations and work to prevent crisis situation and/or hazards associated with those who engage in behaviors that pose a safety risk. Staff will not be allowed to perform Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention or any type of physical management unless they have received the initial CPI training/certification through Oak Hill School.
The CPI program is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to aid staff members in maintaining the best possible Care, Welfare, Safety and Security for agitated or our of control individuals even during their most violent moments. In the event that a students requires physical management because he/she poses a serious imminent safety
risk to him/herself and/or others, Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention will be used as a last resort.

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
