The Human Resources Assistant provides administrative support to the Director of People & Culture. The HR Assistant helps with the implementation of services, policies, and programs aimed at maintaining a safe, positive environment in the agency. The HR Assistant is responsible for processing paperwork, coordinating the pre-employment process, and conducting the onboarding process. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills, be detail-oriented, be able to work well as part of a team and possess excellent time-management skills, in addition to being able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Maintaining confidentiality and working ethically is essential.
Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
· Maintain and update employee records and files
· Prepare new-hire paperwork and conduct onboarding process
· Manage scheduling and logistics for HR-related events and meetings
· Conduct basic research related to HR policies and procedures
· Support the recruitment and hiring process, including posting job openings
· Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations
· Complete other administrative tasks as necessary to support the HR team.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· General knowledge of HR practices and procedures
· Working knowledge of recruitment procedures
· Basic working knowledge of labor law and employment best practices
· Fluency with MS Office
· Read and speak English, bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
· Attention to detail and accuracy
· Communication skills, both verbal and written
· Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Education and Background:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
· At least one year of experience in HR or office administration and support.
Key Performance Indicators:
· Up to date knowledge of fair employment practices and workplace safety rules.
· Managing personnel files and staying focused on department projects until completion.
· Ensure all necessary information has been compiled for new hires (i.e., application, offer letter, updated job description).
· Ensure all pre-employment steps (background check, drug screening, references) have been satisfactorily completed before onboarding.
· All new hire paperwork completed and submitted without errors.
· Onboarding process completed accurately and in timely manner including E-Verify, State Registry, and Paychex.
Physical Abilities:
· Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time.
· Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, and other office equipment
· Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
· Ability to communicate accurate information and ideas so others will understand.
· Ability to observe details at close range
· Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds across office for various purposes.
All positions at Talbot House Ministries require mandatory ongoing training and every employee is required to be available for all scheduled training. In addition, employee attendance is required at all mandatory staff meetings.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
