SUMMARY: Bleuler Psychotherapy Center (BPC), a growing organization providing whole person care in the region, is in search of passionate individuals to join our rapidly growing team! We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Medical Director- Psychiatrist to lead and optimize the performance of our healthcare providers. The Medical Director- Psychiatrist is responsible for overseeing all medical aspects of two NYS-licensed Mental Health Outpatient Treatment and Rehabilitative Service (MHOTRS, article 31), Substance Use Recovery (BCD-article 32) and Adolescent Division. The organization holds an Integrated license (IOS).
The Medical Director- Psychiatrist will provide administrative support and liaise with patients and healthcare professionals, coordinate patient care plans and supervise the nurse practitioners and psychiatrists. The Medical Director- Psychiatrist will support recovery by providing services that reflect our deeply held values that include the recognition of individual rights of self-determination, choice, shared decision-making, and collaboration. When possible, he/she/they will utilize evidence-based practices; always embracing a trauma-informed and person-centered approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides medical oversight and clinical leadership and guidance to all the members of the medical team.
- Provides services as enumerated and carries an appropriate caseload as assigned by Director of Clinic Operations and Intake department.
- Evaluate, prescribe, direct, and/or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral health disorders for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Prevent, diagnose, and treat seriously mentally ill (SMI) patients.
- Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, evaluations, develop treatment regiments, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment and results for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Order, analyze and evaluate patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorders.
- Collaborate with an integrated team approach to discuss treatment plans and progress.
- Participates in reviewing and signing intakes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and other pertinent chart documentation in the Care Logic EHR for BPC, BCD and Adolescent Division.
- Design, execute or approve individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.
- Prescribe and monitor medications and other treatments, including administering Long-Acting Injectable Anti-Psychotics (LAI’s).
- Provides services using a combination of in-person, telephone, and video (telemental/telemedicine) as required/directed.
- Provides unscheduled and or emergency services as needed for walk-in, open-access, and/or crisis intervention at any time during scheduled shift.
- Complete training and provide treatment using Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT) as part of an evidence-based integrated approach to delivering behavioral healthcare services.
- Be available beyond scheduled shift to provide medical guidance and/or consultation during emergency state, as needed.
- Evaluates patient progress and make referrals as needed.
- Complete note encounter documentation within 24 hours of the date of service in accordance with state/federal guidelines and Bleuler’s policies and procedure.
- As needed, meet with patients who are in crisis to curtail emergency visits and/or inpatient hospitalization.
- Collaborate with the Director of Clinic Operations with planning, development, implementation and monitoring of clinic initiatives such as PSYCKES, LAI’s, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).
- Participate in Case conferences, High Risk Committee, and Incident Review Committee meetings, as needed.
- Ensures prescribers complies with federal and state rules, regulations, and codes.
- Provides coverage of clinical and administrative duties when other Bleuler prescribers are on leave.
- Participates in clinic initiatives to utilize evidence-based practices to assess and treat disorders and symptoms such as Tobacco Dependence, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and Suicidal Ideations.
- Reports to the “State Central Registry of Child Abuse & Neglect” all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Reports to the “Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs” all reportable Incidents. Submits Incident Reports to the Director of Clinic Operations for all internal and external incidents.
- Maintains consistent communication with the treatment team, leadership team and other staff via use of technology (Bleuler email, CareLogic email & Alerts, Teams, Voicemails).
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in-person at our clinics. A hybrid schedule is available.
- Knowledge of milieu management, appropriate assessment and evaluation tools and tests, diagnoses, and interventions with patients. Advanced skills in medication management.
- Shows interest and understands the needs, expectations, and circumstances of the person served.
- Treat patients with addiction and drug withdrawal by recognizing all the following withdrawal symptoms: Emotional, Physical, Dangerous, Post-Acute.
- Knowledge working with mental illness in children, adolescents, and the adult population.
- Current and valid NYS board certification in Psychiatry.
- Medical degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved psychiatric residency.
- Licensed to practice medicine in NYS.
- Active and unrestricted DEA registration.
- Be eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs.
- Training and experience in providing Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT).
- Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques.
- Two to five years of physician leadership experience, preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), strongly preferred.
- Some evening and/or weekend hours, preferred.
- Comfortable with computer technology and ability to learn applications needed for recordkeeping and generating reports, including Electronic Health Record (EHR).

ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Research and study current psychiatric publications and data on new practices/treatments to ensure qualitative treatment service offerings.
- Strict compliance with OMH requirements for operation of a NYS licensed MHOTRS program.
- Knowledge of the Office of Mental Health Part 599 regulations, OASAS guidance and directives for licensed MHOTRS, Chemical dependency and Adolescent Division.
- Knowledge of and adherence to Bleuler Psychotherapy Center guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Address any billing related issues no later than within 48 hours timeframe to ensure billing is completed and reimbursements recorded accurately for the services delivered.
- Communicate all clinic and personnel issues or concerns to the Director of Clinic Operations and Chief Program Officer on a timely basis.
Schedule: Monday through Friday - Day/Evening shift availability.
