Lead Direct Support Professional

Reports to: House/Day Support Supervisor or Manager
Starts at $25.00 per hour
The Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) position is primarily responsible for supporting individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing services in the form of implementing the plan of care and completing documentation requirements in accordance with state and agency guidelines. Services may be provided in the individual's home, day support program or in the community. Services focus on building skills, assisting the individual to meet his or her personal goals and ensuring the individual's health, safety and medical needs are met.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES
- One year of experience working directly with individuals who have a developmental disability
- Bachelor's degree in a human services field, including sociology, social work, special education, rehabilitation counseling, or psychology.
- Valid Virginia Drivers’ license and proof of insurance in compliance with driver requirement policy
- Access to a personal vehicle for client transport as required
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Reads and follows the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for individuals
- Ensures all services are provided according to the ISP (skill-building and support with hygiene and self-care, health and safety needs, daily living activities, meals, and recreational activities)
- Ensures all services are documented as required by agency procedures and regulatory standards
- Completes and submits required daily paperwork, monthly progress reviews/supervision for each individual according to established agency guidelines
- Administers medication to each individual as prescribed; follows medication management training and enCircle guidelines; documents medical administration as necessary
- Prepares food and meals while complying with portion control and/or nutritional guidelines for each individual as specified. This may include following specific diets or allergy and mealtime protocols.
- Keeps all areas clean and organized
- Provides transportation by driving individuals to and from destinations per PCP; and provides support to individuals during outings
- Observes Health and Safety Regulations and responds to emergency situations by reporting emergencies, injuries and aggressive behavior of individuals to the supervisor; following emergency preparedness plans or emergency procedures; proactively implementing Crisis De-escalation/Behavior management techniques as appropriate; implementing First Aid or CPR when required; and completing appropriate documentation accurately and in a timely manner
