IDEA Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. serves approximately 320 students in Grades 9-12. Our unique program prepares students for both college and careers. In addition to offering college preparatory courses, including Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment options, we also provide students with a variety of options for career technical education. All students at IDEA complete a career program of study. We currently offer the following career programs: child development, construction, computer science, culinary arts, and hospitality and tourism. We are considering several new programs for School Year 2024-2025, including business management and cosmetology. Our school is located in the historic Deanwood neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. The Instructional Coach will play a key role in supporting teachers' professional growth and enhancing instructional practices to improve student learning outcomes. Collaborating closely with school leadership and faculty, you will provide targeted coaching, feedback, and resources to help teachers implement effective instructional strategies aligned with standards and initiatives. The Instructional Coach’s responsibilities will include conducting classroom observations, analyzing student data, and delivering personalized professional development sessions to address individual and collective instructional needs. Additionally, the Instructional Coach will serve as a mentor and thought partner to teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with school leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive instructional coaching program aligned with school goals and priorities.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to teachers through co-planning, modeling, observing, and providing feedback on instructional practices.
- Analyze student achievement and observational data to identify areas for instructional improvement and develop action plans to address learning gaps.
- Design and facilitate professional development workshops, seminars, and PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) focused on best practices in pedagogy, assessment, and differentiation.
- Stay current with research-based instructional and coaching strategies to inform coaching practices and support teachers' professional growth.
- Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to promote a collaborative and positive school culture conducive to continuous improvement.
- Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives, such as curriculum alignment, assessment design, and intervention strategies.
- Review lesson plans and instructional materials submitted by teachers, providing constructive feedback and suggestions to improve curriculum design, alignment with learning objectives, and differentiation strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers to co-create and refine lesson plans, ensuring they incorporate research-based instructional practices, utilize a variety of instructional methods, and address the diverse needs of students.
- Facilitate discussions and workshops on effective lesson planning and curriculum development, sharing best practices and resources to enhance instructional quality and student engagement.
- Monitor implementation of revised lesson plans and provide ongoing support and feedback to teachers to ensure fidelity to instructional goals and objectives.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum specialists, department chairs, and instructional leaders to identify areas for curriculum enhancement and development, advocating for alignment with state standards and district initiatives.
- Maintain documentation of lesson plan reviews, feedback provided, and outcomes observed, and use data to inform future coaching and professional development efforts.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and engage in reflective practices to continuously enhance coaching effectiveness.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Education or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of teaching experience in an urban high school setting.
- Minimum of 2 years of teacher coaching experience
- Proven track record of improving student achievement through effective instructional coaching and support.
- Deep understanding of pedagogical principles, curriculum design, and assessment practices aligned with state standards.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret student data and inform instructional decision-making.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate adult learning and lead professional development sessions.
- Flexible, adaptive, and collaborative approach to working in a dynamic school environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
