What is a Family Home Agency Provider?
A Family Home Agency (also known as Host Home or Shared Living) Provider’s primary responsibility is to maintain a safe and healthy home environment for the individual supported. This support goes beyond helping people with their daily activities; you will also focus on the tools needed to learn life skills, self-sufficiency, and helping them become an active member of their community.
When opening your home and heart to an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities, you will learn from one another. You will share interests, try new hobbies, participate in activities and family events. You become family!
Duties vary according to each individual needs. Responsibilities will range from minimal support (i.e., budgeting, medication, transportation, activities of daily living, etc.) to full support (i.e., dressing, hygiene, feeding, positive behavioral support, etc.) AbleLight will provide support and ongoing training during your journey!
This role is a great fit for individuals with experience as a Caregiver, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), DSP (Direct Support Professional), or other related fields.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing support for daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, budgeting, decision making, etc.
- Assisting with skill acquisition
- Administering medication
- Transporting to medical appointments
- Supporting overall health and well-being
- Inputting daily documentation via web-based case management application (THERAP)
- Providing fun and leisure experiences to the individual (opportunities for community inclusion, integration, and socialization)
- Compliance with all state/agency policy and procedures
- Communicating effectively with team members as needed
- Supporting physical needs of individual served
- Providing transportation
Additional responsibilities depending on preference and the individual’s needs:
- Assisting with bathing, toileting, feeding, behavioral support, etc.
- Providing support for medical protocols (such as seizure, fall, feeding tube, etc.)
- Caring for someone with complex physical/medical needs (i.e., hearing impaired, vision impaired, non-ambulatory, etc.)
- Potential support of behavioral issues
What are the requirements to become an FHA Provider?
- Transportation, valid driver's license, car insurance and current registration
- Available bedroom in your home
- Active home/renters’ insurance
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience preferred but not required
- Reliable computer and internet access
- Complete all state mandated trainings
- Environmentally safe and clean residence
- Ability to pass State/Federal and APS/CPS background check.

Pay: Up to $5,200.00 per month
