Physical Education Teacher (K-8)

Background:
Moving Everest Charter School opened its doors in August 2015 with 176 students enrolled in kindergarten and first grade in a newly constructed school building in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. We have grown to be a K-8 school with 800 students.

Job Summary
Position is responsible for leading, developing, growing, monitoring and assisting students improve their health and physical fitness.
Essential Duties
1. Plan and implement fitness, sports, and play based programming
2. Help students see the value in being physically active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
3. Create an active, safe, and fun, classroom by developing and modeling fitness activities and developing behavior and conflict resolution skills, for all students including those who might be disinterested in health and fitness.
4. Report incidents and accidents through established forms and procedures.
5. Attend to any student discipline issues that may arise during class; following all school protocols re: discipline and reporting.
6. Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
7. Other duties as required by the Principal.

Typical physical and mental demands
Physical Education teachers are required to frequently balance, bend, climb, grasp, kneel, reach, sit, squat, stand, stoop, twist, walk, and write on a daily basis. Recess coach must also be able to occasionally lift and carry light to medium loads of 10 – 50 pounds, and be able to occasionally pull and push loads of 10 – 50 pounds. Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate with children and adults. Also requires flexibility to readily adapt to changes.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
