Child Care Provider Summary
Work with the Lead and Room Assistants to implement the lesson plans and provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels of the children. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Be a positive role model.
*Requirements
Child Care Providers must be a minimum of 16 year of age; 18 years of age or more is preferred.
Responsibilities
The Child Care Provider’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis. It is especially important to communicate pertinent information to the Room Lead.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and serve as a good role model for the children and other staff.
- Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to Room Lead’s attention.
- Be sure that your room meets staff-to-child ratio and room capacity at all times. If it does not meet staff-to-child ratios, immediately contact the Room Lead, Room Assistant, OSS, Office Assistant, or Center Director (in that order as available).
- Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program.
- Follow all Children’s World policies.
- Adhere to DHS and CACFP regulations, including completion of required paperwork.
Child-Specific Responsibilities
- Make sure children are well taken care of and needs are met to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Observe and supervise children's play activities at all times. (playground, napping, big room, etc.)
- Provide a safe, secure atmosphere for children.
- Interact with the children at their level, in a way which conveys respect and nurturing.
- Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, medications administered and illness.
- Instruct children in health and personal habits such as family style eating, hand washing, resting, and toilet habits.
- Read to children and teach them simple painting, drawing, crafts, and songs.
- Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games and large motor activities.
- Assist in serving meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods.
- Dress children and change diapers, as applicable.
- Help children with homework and school assignments. (School Crew)
- Accompany children to and from school, field trips, and outings.
- Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
- Discipline children and recommend or initiate other measures to decrease behaviors in the future.
Facility-Specific Responsibilities
- Sterilize, organize, and store toys, materials, and play equipment to ensure order in activity areas.
- Sterilize and prepare bottles. (Infants and Mobiles Room)
- Perform assigned cleaning duties as directed. This can include any of the Children’s World facilities.
Physical, Environmental, and Other General Requirements
- Able to do the following.
- Sit on floor or low child size chair
- Be outside in all types of weather for short periods of times
- Stand for extended durations
- Work without supervision.
- Handle conflicts and daily challenges in a professional manner.
- Provide self-motivation to complete tasks effectively.
- Work in a proactive rather than reactive manner to promote a positive environment for staff, children, and families.
Note: As a Child Care Provider, you are exposed to a large number of people. This increases the likelihood of being exposed to various communicable diseases.
