Position Summary
The Manager of Facilities & Buildings manages construction, renovation, and space maintenance projects and oversees the tracking of space assignments and utilization for the School of Natural Sciences. This position will proactively identify and communicate teaching and research sensitivities to minimize impacts on faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders in the Wiess School of Natural Sciences due to F&CP projects.
Workplace Requirements
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person Monday – Friday, 8 to 5 pm. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change, working hour expectations, $83,400 - $90,000
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3+ years of experience in project or construction management in industry or academic setting
Skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences
- Demonstrates project management ability to employ integration, problem-solving, scope time management, cost, quality, communications, risk, and procurement components
- Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality
- Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects
Preferences
- Experience in a research environment at a university, including research and teaching lab renovation project management
- Knowledge of MEP systems
- Familiarity with space allocation management, including software to manage space-allocation databases
- Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to address and influence a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to effectively balance customer expectations with project constraints
- Resilience and problem-solving skills for a wide range of interactions and situations
- Project and/or construction management certification
Essential Functions
- Performs the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing
- Independently leads and directs projects requiring high levels of functional integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed
- Facilitates discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus
- Develop action plans and estimate resources required to complete projects
- Develops and executes comprehensive change management strategies and communication plans for projects and stakeholders
- Mentors or leads administrative staff engaged with building maintenance and renovations
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Additional Functions
- Interfaces with F&CP and keeps renovation and construction projects on schedule and within budget
- Oversees and tracks building maintenance and space assignment and utilization
- Communicates with faculty and staff about facilities issues and projects that might impact educational and research activities and budgets
