To perform an extensive number of data collection functions as delegated by the physician to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients and to do so in a way that instills patient confidence in the treatment. Demonstrate ophthalmic technician skills. Reports to Office Administrator and Providers.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares/maintains exam rooms.
- Disinfects and wipes down all equipment and instruments.
- Prepares exam rooms before each patient and restocks with necessary supplies in between appointments.
- Conducts inventory of supplies at the stock examination rooms. Verifies and maintains stock level and recommends disposal for all expired supply items.
- Processes patient’s information through the computer system and helps maintain the operation of the reception records and examination room area.
- Manages continuous patient flow/schedule by effectively communicating with team members and providers.
- Prepares referrals, work and/or school excuse letters, written prescriptions for providers to sign and staff consult letters to primary care provider.
- Conducts pre-testing and special testing for the following equipment and instruments:
- Auto refraction, Lensometry, Tonometry, and Topography.
- Preliminary case history including current medical conditions.
- Visual acuities, Phoropter, color vision, and drop instillation.
- Blood Pressure Measurement
- Special testing – Visual Fields, Fundus Photography, Optical Coherence Tomography, and Pachymetry.
- Educate patients on care of contact lenses, including insertion and removal training for new wearers.
- Manage contact lens orders, trainings for new wearers, insurance coverage, and contact lens inquires.
- Place order with manufacturer.
- Apply insurance benefits.
- Communicate quotes for lenses and collect payments.
- Contact patients when their contact lens order is ready.
- Manages incoming/outgoing correspondence and referrals.
- Retrieves patient records from other clinics to ensure complete information on file before appointment date.
- Answers technician line phone inquiries, emails, and in person patient communication as needed.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Effective team player. With very good interpersonal relationship skills and can work
- and relate well with co-employees, patients, and customers.
- Computer literate and very highly proficient in using MS office programs.
- Must have the behavioral sensitivity, maturity, diplomacy, and tact in addressing complex situations and handling irate customers.
- Must have basic familiarity on federal and state laws and requirements relating to healthcare management.
- Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
Qualifications:
- Previous work in a medical environment preferred
- 1+ years in customer service
- State MA or Nursing assistant license preferred
- High School Graduate – certification is not required
