Shelter Veterinarian
Big Dog Ranch Rescue(“BDRR”) is the largest cage free, no kill dog rescue in the United States. We are currently seeking a veterinarian with experience in shelter medicine to perform medical/surgical care of dogs in our facility located in Shorter, Alabama.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and directs the medical operation of a non-profit dog rescue.
- Ability to thoroughly document and perform 20-30 physical exams per day.
- Perform pre-and post-operative examinations on all patients.
- Assist in the evaluation and establishment of disease control and medical protocols.
- Provide oversight supervision of veterinary technicians.
- Oversee the maintenance of drug and supply inventory while meeting and maintaining DEA requirements.
- Adhere to state and federal regulations as well as organizational protocol regarding animal care, treatment, advocacy, and the mission of the organization.
- Must be a collaborator with ability to collaborate with other Veterinarians.
- Work in conjunction with the CEO to ensure smooth operation of the clinic.
- Pay/neuter surgeries s required.
Requirements and Qualifications
- 3- 5 or more years of experience in Veterinary Medicine.
- Must have or be able to obtain a license to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Alabama.
- DEA License must be held for Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
- USDA Category I certification.
- Possess good surgical skills and able to sustain a heavy surgical schedule.
- Able to work well under pressure and in a challenging environment.
- Experience with Shelter Luv or other shelter software.
- Willing to be on call for occasional emergencies such as C-Sections that must be performed as soon as possible.
- Committed to the mission of the organization and the goal of saving dogs.
Position Classification
- Veterinarian position is a full time, exempt position, supervised by the CEO.
- Salary $125,000-$175,000
