Position Title: Michigan Certified Special Education Teacher
Reports to: Special Education Coordinator
Salary Range: Starting at $41,000, contracted 185 days
Primary Function: The primary function of the virtual Special Education teacher is to provide individualized instruction to all students on their caseload based on IEP goals.
Special Education Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
- Report to Special Education Coordinator
- Assessing student skills and learning requirements in Fall or upon enrollment using Benchmark assessments.
- Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
- Collaborating with parents and school staff to track students’ progress and report Quarterly sent to parent
- Completing REED for 3 year re evaluations
- Complete REED documents for any new initial evaluations.
- Assess students’ abilities and create lessons to target IEP goals.
- Keep track of and reflect on students’ progress
- Monitor children’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed in collaboration with center staff.
- Prepare students for transition to the next grade or post secondary through a transition plan.
- Create a weekly schedule to deliver student instructional sessions for each student and submit to the Special Education Coordinator.
- Document all parent/student interactions in Pulse
- Inform parents about their children’s performance and potential problems through meetings and progress reports
- Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors and speech therapists) to create holistic intervention plans
- Weekly rotating Center visits unless driving conditions are unsafe
- Attend Student Service Team Meetings and individual meetings with Special Ed. Coordinator.
- Weekly collaboration with center staff for students having IEPS
- Maintain current certification
- Maintain IEP snapshots and Pulse long term notes with IEP accommodations (update within 1 week of completion of IEP and submit accommodation changes
- Follow Communication Guidelines
Qualifications
1.Valid State of Michigan Special Education Certification Granted by the Professional Teaching Standards Board.
2. Experience/skills with computer and computer software programs, such as
Google Suite, and student management systems.
3. Ability to initiate and complete tasks with self-direction in a timely manner.
4. Excellent English and grammar skills, proofreading skills, oral and written communications skills.
5. Ability to effectively operate various systems and office equipment.
6. Demonstrated understanding of the use of technology in both instructional and operational settings.
7. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills including the ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communications.
8 Must exhibit a pleasant personality and positive attitude toward working with administration, staff and community members. Evidence of ability to establish working relationships that result in mutual respect.
9. Ability to handle multiple projects in an efficient and effective manner.
