We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Engineer I, Mechanical.
- Design, prototype, and test components and sub-assemblies to meet product objectives
- Translate user needs to design input requirements and product specifications
- Use empirical testing and numerical methods to assess and analyze designs
- Write engineering test plans/protocols and reports
- Create and/or modify engineering drawings; apply proper drawing practices and geometric tolerancing
- Identify and mitigate component-level, sub-assembly-level, and system-level risks through use of FMEAs and other risk assessment tools
- Interact with vendors and internal production teams to explore, troubleshoot, and/or improve fabrication/manufacturing processes
- Support benchtop, pre-clinical, and clinical testing of devices
- Support design reviews by providing critical technical assessment; Lead design reviews when making design recommendations
- Gain a detailed understanding of the developing clinical environment (i.e. current treatment methods, evolving clinical needs, etc.)
- Gain a detailed understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements of Abbott, FDA, and ISO regulations; manage projects within these requirements
- Gain a detailed understanding of project schedule and goals to effectively work within interdisciplinary teams to meet project deliverables
- Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments
- Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors
Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott’s marketplace success:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering with mechanical design focus
- 1-3 years’ experience in the medical device or relevant industry
- Solidworks or other CAD experience
- Experience designing and testing medical devices (class II and class III preferred)
- Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing
- Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast paced changing environment
- Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects
- Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
- Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as an attention to detail

Pay: $45.00 - $58.00 per hour
