Responsibilities
- Preventive maintenance: perform regular inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and calibration of machinery and equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance. This involves following maintenance schedules and conducting routine checks on various components.
- Troubleshooting and repair: diagnose equipment malfunctions and mechanical failures to identify the root cause of the problem. They then carry out repairs or replacements of defective parts, such as motors, sensors, valves, belts, and bearings, to restore functionality.
- Equipment installation and commissioning: They assist in the installation, setup, and testing of new machinery and production lines. This may involve assembling equipment, connecting electrical and mechanical components, and ensuring proper alignment and calibration before production begins.
- Responding to breakdowns: are on call to respond to equipment breakdowns and emergencies that occur during production. They must work quickly and efficiently to troubleshoot issues, implement temporary fixes if necessary, and restore operations to minimize downtime.
- Safety inspections and compliance: conduct safety inspections of machinery and equipment to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols. This includes checking for worn-out parts, loose connections, and malfunctioning safety features.
- Documentation and reporting: maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repair logs, and equipment manuals. They also report any significant issues, maintenance trends, or recommendations for improvements to management.
- Continuous improvement: participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, efficiency, and productivity. This may involve implementing new maintenance strategies, upgrading equipment, or proposing process improvements to optimize plant operations.
- Training and knowledge transfer: may provide training and guidance to operators and other staff on proper equipment usage, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols. They may also share expertise and best practices with colleagues to build a skilled and knowledgeable maintenance team.

- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is usually the minimum requirement for this position.
- Courses / Certifications: Preference for any courses completed in electromechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and welding can be beneficial.
Skills & Experience
- Relevant work experience in maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing environment, is highly desirable.
- Entry-level positions may require little to no prior experience, but candidates with hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting will have an advantage.
- Experience with specific types of machinery and equipment commonly used in automotive parts manufacturing, such as CNC machines, robotic systems, injection molding machines, and conveyor systems, is valuable.
- Mechanical aptitude: A strong understanding of mechanical systems, including knowledge of gears, bearings, belts, motors, and other mechanical components.
- Electrical knowledge: Basic understanding of electrical systems, circuits, wiring, and components. Familiarity with troubleshooting electrical issues is essential.
- Troubleshooting abilities: Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions, identify root causes of problems, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques: Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices, predictive maintenance technologies, and reliability-centered maintenance concepts.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialized maintenance equipment. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is advantageous.
- Safety awareness: Strong commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of safety regulations and protocols. Ability to perform maintenance tasks safely and adhere to safety guidelines.
- Communication skills: Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
