Job Overview
The Instructional Software Specialist supports the acquisition, support, and use of instructional software applications. The Instructional Software Specialist collaborates with staff across the organization, including other offices inside the Department of Teaching and Learning and the Department of Digital Innovation to ensure teachers and students can access and use the software tools available to support student learning.
Roles and Responsibilities

Act as a primary point of contact for technical support and instructional support for a variety of software applications and serve as a liaison and initial point of contact between the Department of Teaching and Learning and 3rd-party software providers.

Design, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of learning materials (including videos, user guides and e-learning resources) to support the use of division-provided instructional software tools.

Design and deliver or coordinate professional learning opportunities for teachers and other division staff.

Assist Department of Teaching and Learning staff in analyzing needs and selecting instructional software tools to support instructional initiatives and curricula.

Collaborate with the Department of Digital Innovation and Department of Teaching and Learning staff to manage the process of reviewing software applications for use by teachers and schools.

Maintain a database of software applications provided by LCPS and reviewed for teacher and school use.

Proactively research and recommend emerging instructional technologies, including generative AI, to support innovation.

Support, as needed, other Instructional Technology and Department of Teaching and Learning programs and initiatives.
Qualifications
Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.
Education Bachelor’s degree
Experience
Three (3) years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience
Licenses and Certifications
Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

In-depth understanding of adult learning.

In-depth understanding of current trends in educational technology, particularly around trends in instructional software.

Experience with elearning rapid development tools, including video creation/screencasting tools and software simulation tools.

Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and leadership skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills.
